Its very early days for me as I'm only 200 miles & 1 week in, so I'm waiting to get to know the car better before posting my first full impressions.

But I am interested to ask those of you who have had yours for a while (the standard 997 GT3 or RS) if you have found any issues/problems that may be common to the new beast. few other questions:

How did you run yours in...honestly?

Have you found the tyres to be bad in the wet once they wear down a few mm?

Any rattles, squeaks & bits dropping off?

Any mechanical/electrical issues?

A few minor things on mine it seems to start in a cloud of oil smoke each morning (rather than now & again!), the drivers door rattles at 3000 odd revs in sympathy with an engine resonance, the brakes groan & squeal on occasion also seem to grab on light applications! All very minor & only noticeable because I can't currently drive her as intended!

Your 200-mile 95 grand car has got a rattly door and smokes like an old van when you start it each day? You don't sound as miffed as I'd be.

No probs with mine.

As for running in - 1200miles so far and three track days included so draw your own conclusions.

The tyres will need replacing after the next track day but no issues at the moment with them

I have found the rear arches infront of the wheels are very susceptive to stone chips, if i was buying new again i would think very hard about venture sheild or something similar.

The stone chips in some cases have gone through the vinyl letters.

The single flywheel seems to get noisier with time too.

Barry

A problem with the wider wheel arches then - hopefully NOT a problem with the narrow non-RS.

2,000 miles and no problems

- Smokes on cold start up, after a couple of days, just like every other Porsche I've owned - from 356 to 996.
- No rattles to speak of. OPC fixed one in the door caused by a loose door lock tumbler clip.
- Tyres are fantastic, but a 'road biased' option with longer life would make sense.
- Only practical issues are the low front splitter and lack of front radiator protection.
- All else is clap In fact it really is so good to drive that I'd turn a blind eye to any minor niggles.

Grant - why have you got a picture of a Ford on your profile??!! Where's your GT3?

Also, the door rattle may be as a result of the door lining having been taken off by the supplying OPC - replacement window/door repaint as a worst case scenario.

Ref the photo......I'm still holding onto the memory of the Aston until the Thug has got under my skin!

Two others have experienced the door rattle on PCGB, so I was interested to see if it was affecting others, it would drive me nuts if it was all the time, but as it is a set rev range I can wait to sort once I know it isn't just a passing blip!!!

By the way how did things work out on the job front, has the cloud got a silver lining???

The same probs I have on mine - the door handle rattles between 2k t0 3.5k revs as well as rattling noise coming from the dashboard???. But im enjoying the darn thing too much to give it back to porsche to look into.

Re aquaplaning disclaimer porsche gave - last night I was driving back from city and hit a load of standing water at around 80mph -not intentionally!!. Thinking the worse of the car loosing control and the fine hairs standing up on the back my neck – was kind surprised coming out of it ok..

The other point I noticed on the car – is that if the sport button is selected, it gives the exhaust a more meatier sound – especially around 3k rev mark

Thanks for asking.....it has indeed
Left Lookers VW at the end of the "consultation period" (28 Feb) and started at the Arnold Clark Leyland Motorstore on Monday this week thumbup
I've been really lucky to get another job within the motor trade as an accountant as so many places seem to be centralising accounting functions (not AC).
So if you have friends/family who are looking for a car then Arnold Clark is the place to go
I can now look forward to getting my beast in a few weeks bounce driving rotate spin

I have done 6ooo miles in my GT3 now and I am off to do a little hoon to Spain in a couple of weeks, so will have about 10K on the clock by the time I get home !

No rattles or squeaks yet. She is still loosening up on the engine front !

A little smoke on start up but nothing more than you would expect when auto choke is operating on any car.

My front nose cone suffered some paint chipping and the paint has not been applied correctly to the point that you can flake bits off around the chip with your finger nail. I am having a front respray under warranty.

I have also noticed some pock marking on the front alloys, which has not materialised on the rears. Has anybody else noticed this on their wheels? I will see the OPC about this when I get back from Spain.

The cup tyres are great, even in the wet but only last around 4000 miles on the rear!

I have also had to have the screen replaced by Autoglass due to a large crsck caused by a stone. They did a fantastic job replacing the screen for me and I will be writng a nice letter to their head office to commend the skill and conduct of the chap that fitted it for me.

I do get a bit of groaning noise when braking firmly. I have steel discs on mine and assume that this noise is normal???? I have ceramics on the TT so have not had the groaning before. Can anyone else confirm that they have the same noise on their GT3 / GT3RS? It may well be down to the pad specification.

All in all I am thoroughly pleased with the GT3 and look forward to many many happy miles in her.

Well done, looks like yours in on schedule then, didn't get a reason why mine was delayed a week.
Did they give you an expected delivery date to your OPC ??

No they didn't but the salesman intimated i could even pick up the week before - 24 March, so I guess during that week it'd arrive.

Cant pick it up until i get paid in the last week of March anyway as I still need every penny i can get my hands on hehe

The engines don't need running in. They have been run in hard for the equivalent of several hundred km at the factory and all the way to the red line several times as part of the quality control checks for power output, oil leaks etc. The break in period is solely for components such as the gearbox, brakes, tyres and other ancillary equipment that doesn't get stress tested at the factory

Are the pock marks right down at the end of the spokes next to the rim ?
