Guys,

Have been pondering on this car for some time, not in my ideal colour (black/black Anyone know of a MK1 GT3 for sale in that colour with low miles ~15K):

www.paul-stephens.com/stockdet.asp?car=441

Does anyone happen to know the history of this baby? Looks like I might need to spend some money on the brakes etc if not upgraded for some track use.

Is it really worth this much?

Should I be taking the plunge? At this money should I be considering something else?

Wrong car to buy if you want to track it imo..its got a huge premium because of its low mileage and therefore presumed perfect condition..all that will be lost if the car gets tracked and racks up some miles..all imo of course.

Slightly off-topic, but the indy where I service my car do a lot of inspections for potential purchasers. They had a red GT3 in about 12 months ago (from Paul Stephens) and they commented that his cars are consistently prepared to a very high standard compared to the others they've seen.
But no, I don't know the car in question.

Hmm, Yes I have heard good things from this dealer.

But Kayc may have a point it just may be too much a premium.

I don't plan to track it that often and will only use it on the weekends but it just may be too high a price, maybe I should wait for that black on black one . I would hate to think that it never sees a track almost feel sorry for it.

I'm sure it's lovely & P.S. is one of the best inbdependant dealers, but if you look through the PH classifieds you will see several GT3's that look better value.

MkII's go for less & less than 2k miles per year is not necessarily a good thing.

Finally don't believe the "can't possibly track a Mk1 on the standard brakes" B.S. either - email me if you want to know more on that.

Personally, I prefer cars that have actually been driven occasionally. 8k miles in 7 years means this car has spent the majority of its time going nowhere. That's a negative, not a plus for me.

Be careful not to overpay from dealer also. If you want to know the true values, phone a few specialists asking for a price on "your" nice Mk1 GT3 with 20k. Think you'll find most offer around £35k.

Recall seeing a Mk1 GT3 CS (RHD - black/black) recently, was either Autotrader or PH.

You have checked the classifieds here on PH haven't you?

There are currently 11 Mk1 GT3s for sale, two of which are black/black.

Don't be put off by 33k miles, that is still very low for 7yr old car. At least shows someone has taken the time to drive it more than once every 3 months.

Thanks guys. Yes have looked at the black/black one for sale here thats 33K on the clock looks like its been well looked after and been seriously tracked from the goodies it has. For that money am possibly looking at ~20K on the clock, may not mean much to the engine/car but does in the market place if I was too sell IMHO.

yes but worse. In August/Sept last yearI tried to PX my immaculate MK1 with circa 35K on the clock, I was offered £30K against an equally immaculate MK2 on offer at £58K IIRC furious

Usual OPC BS, "well it's the colour sir (Zanzibar) we'd be taking a massive risk if we did a PX on a your car......"

They rang me up the following day and offered me another £2K..................

Low mileage, so that will push the value up. It should be in fantastic condition with such litle use and they are asking top money. Check the history, which OPC supplied the car originally and maybe speak to the OPC that looked after the car. How many owners?

308 is the total number of rhd cars worldwide and there are a lot less, 106 I think in the UK. 28 of those were clubsports which have all the goodies installed for anyone intending to do track days.

I think many would agree that the original 996 GT3's at C£40k are beginning to look very attractive at the moment. Most of the cars are two or so years from reaching their 10 year anniversary - so you wont be able to get a manf warranty...

Does anybody have a feel for
- the impact this will have on values
- the build quality of the engine. A number of indies have been good enough to describe some of the faults with the std 996 engine. Nothing is going to bomb proof but i would be interested to hear some (dare i say) informed views ....

Thanks

993RS's & GT2's are 10 years old now & the warranty issue doesn't seem to have dented their values.

Mk1 engines were hand built by the motorsport boys (may be the case for MkII too) and are very strong. My car was dyno'd last year at circa 33,000 miles & was making comfortably in excess of the factory quoted output & it's completely standard.
I know of a few RMS's that have needed changing, but that's hardly the end of the world

Gearboxes seem to be a bit more problematic, with several I know of needing re-builds at circa 40,000 miles.

Yep, agree with that Andy, not heard of any std. cars needing full engine rebuilds only occasional RMS and heard of a good few gearboxes with failing brass synchros in the 40k plus mileages.
