At the risk of too many opinions, if buying new what should be the major pitfalls of the wrong choice ?Cayenne great fun but ugly , X5 bit footballers wife and RRS bit slow - I realise I will get shafted on depreciation but presume more so on the RRS.
Any comments gratefully received.
Thanks

RRS TDV8 would be a good bet, the Supercharged models will take a hit. The new Cayanne is just the same as the old and the new X5 looks dated already. Would have to be the RRS for me.

Don't forget the facelift VW Toerag, though if the KN is not your cuppa the VW might also be resigned to the sin bin.

Hi, I've owned all three and they are all great all round cars that do a good job of hiding their bulk. The cayenne was prob the best of the three and drove the best and it is still a Porsche! The RRS looks great on the other hand but IMO is let down a bit but its interior... The X5 sits somewhere in the middle.

RRS - build quality quite poor if the experience of two friends who've got them is anything to go by.

Audi Q7 is nice. Consider XC90 - but perhaps a bit school run?

Cayenne S makes a great 2nd hand buy.

I went through the same and conlcuded that the E class Merc. estate would do the same but better.

Ajit.

The "real" Range Rover is the best of all. I have owned X5, driven a Cayenne a lot and have a RR. The RR is by far the best allrounder. The Cayenne is dynamically very good but is let down by its looks and interior space. I found the rear seats particularly bad. The X5 I found awful. The A pillars are too big so your visibility going around corners is impaired, there is no space in the rear, the doors are too heavy and when it is freezing outside the doors will not shut. The RR is the real thing. Lots of space. Visibility is excellent, comes will all the equipment, and you don't need to drive it as a maniac in order to enjoy the ride. I have taken it to the Alps a couple of times and it is a fantastic long distance cruiser. The TDV8 would be my preferred choice.

Depends what you want to use it for.

Personally, I don't see the point of the big, thirsty, high performance, 4x4s. But I do understand the attractions of a comfortable, practical SUV as a family wagon.

In that context the X5 Sport is the best value, has a superb diesel option (28mpg)and is possiby the best 'on road'. It'll be the cheapest to run, with the lowest depreciation.

Check out the new one and then spend the change, and savings, on a proper driver's car.
