I'm currently trying to find a 03 996 c4s or turbo , there a quite a few cars about which fit the bill except for the lack of sat nav , has anyone succesfully retro fitted the factory nav back in , i have just had a quote for 3k to get it done by an opc , was wondering if it was a viable diy job?

My view is you'd need to be very keen to want to go to all the trouble over just buying a TomTom. They're bloody good, and at £299 for the 710 with the European maps, bluetooth for mobile phone hands free operation and speed cameras you can't go far wrong.

If you want an OEM look, you dont necessarily need to go the OEM equipment route. There are plenty of outfits out there who could fit another unit, and do a very professional job. Check my profile pic to see a pioneer unit

Or just tom tom it, but then have issues of taking it out all the time.

Basically, i think for £3k, you could get a far better system than the porsche one, and have change left over.

I never understand this sat-nav thing on a Porsche, its a sports car not a mini cab!If the most important item on a Porsche is a sat-nav system i think people are looking at the wrong cars,Porsches are for driving experience, quality, performance and the purity of the design etc not for techy gizmos, cup holders, cruise control and huge hifi.Eqaully the sat-nav systems tend to be troublesome with age so a Tom-Tom would be better if you really dont know where you are going, all imho of course

I have thought about tom tom etc but don't fancy things hanging off the window , tried some serches for after market systems but not found much yet .

Is the space left when you remove the A/C and radio a double din space ?

Mine's mounted on the bottom right corner of my screen, next to the bottom of the pillar. Nice and unobtrusive and with nothing obstructed other than my view of the front near-side wing.

I wanted an head-unit based one, but they're a lot more than the tomtom and I don't think they come out as well in the reviews.

Keith - I retro-fitted Sat Nav and phone module in my Turbo. Not too difficult.

I can let you have details if you're interested.
