Been reading this forum for a while, definitly one of the more sinsible and informative forums I'v read. I need a bit of info tho and I'v had a bit of a search and found nothing. Basically I'm 21 and planning to buy a Porsche Boxster. I've always loved this car and have worked hard enough to be able to afford one. What has surprised me tho is the price of insurance. I never expected it to be cheap but so far the few internet quotes I'v got are making me consider weather it's worth paying arround £3k a year for insurance. What I'm really looking to know is weather there is any other young Porsche drivers and weather they've found and decent insurance companies or it they've just forked out did they think that it was worth it. I just don't know if I could enjoy driving a car which was costing me so much.

So in summary, is there anywhere I could go to get better quotes and if not would I be safer driving something less powerfull for a year or two, or is the experience of driving a Porsche worth the cost.

Also on a different note, in general do you reckon that prices of Boxsters are likely to fall as the summer draws to a close and by how much roughly.

I feel ingorant for making my first post a new topic but due to not owning a Porsche I don't feel like I have much to offer on the other topics!

Oh yea an I don't want any posts with the word dreamer, etc in it! lol I have worked hard for my money (no mummy and daddy involvement!) and paying the extortionate insurance quotes is not beyond my means, what I am asking is weather it's worth it.

Sorry if I'm jumping the gun but I can imagin how it might look!
Thanks!

When I was 19yrs old I bought an Escort Cosworth and paid £4,500 for the first year's insurance.

I worked my absolute balls off to pay for it, sacrificed a lot, and it was worth every penny. Now 26yrs old I'm STILL glad I did it.

If you can, do it.

Oh, and try A-Plan insurance

£3k sounds cheap!!

I am 35, seven years protected NCB, with a 911 garaged ina secure carpark with CCTV and security guards.

I pay £1600 a year!!

If you have 4 years NCB and no points or anything else you might bel ucky and get it for less, but £3k sounds about right.

FWIW I know of a colleague whose son is 22 and has a Vanquish. He pays £15,000 pa plus a £10,000 excess.

If you can afford to buy the car and run it, do it but don't if it'll end up a struggle to run, service and insure the car

As soovy says £3k sounds like a good price, my 1st year's insurance was £1500 3rd party on a lightly tuned fiat uno turbo

yes, well all make foolish mistakes when we were young

I am just trying to insure a car for my 18year old son and a 1.0L Fiesta is nearly three thousand pounds, so I think your quote at three grand is a good one. I do not wish to doubt the quotes because you have obviously had them but I would read the small print very carefully, you don't want to take it out and find it has an exclusion that stops you taking it out of the garage.

Hi, I had my first Boxster when I was 23 and my insurance was around 3k (the quotes went up to 7k). Tescos were the cheapest at the time. I now use Chris at Michael Ward (01707 266303) and they have slashed my insurance and are well worth a call.

Suddenly £3k doesn't sound so bad! It'll be garaged, no points, and I'll hopefull have IAM test before insuring it. Is the 2.5 Boxster quick. I'm scared to have a test drive until I'm sure that it is a feasible purchase because I want to use my head to buy this car, not my heart. Is the boxster quick. Pretty open question I know and I know the figures inside out but fast cars I drove are prodrive impreza, civic type r, 3 series bmw (tuned to 210bhp) and leon cupra. Has anybody driven any of these cars and would be able to make a comparison. I know that the Porsche would be quicker, better handling than those cars but is it fast enough to make those cars feel slow or is it just up there, there abouts.

I'm waffeling now but you get the idea.
Thanks for the quick replies btw!

depends what you're coming from

if it's a '94/M Astra 1.4 auto then yes, if it's a 997 tt X50 then no

don't worry about how fast it'll be, absolute power doesn't mean much these days it's having fun that counts

I've not long renewed my insurance on a megane coupe and maybe shoping arround for number as close to a grand as possible has made three sound expensive. Think you guys where what I needed to get my plan back on track, just the thought of giving three thousand of my hard earned pounds to somebody after saving hard to buy my dream car knocked me back a bit!

Quoted as it's almost complimentary

The 2.5 Boxster isn't scarily quick, but it's a bloody good introduction to the world of Pork. All the power is in the last 1,500 RPM so you have to stir it a bit to make progress. Fun? You bet they are yes More front end grip than you would believe possible.
