Noticed today whilst sitting in a queue of traffic in the pouring rain, steam coming out of the front of the car, probably through the bonnet vent. Checked the water and oil temps all appeared ok. Having checked the rads and a/c condensors, it would appear that they are becoming damaged by stones entering through the front spoiler scoops.Anybody had the same problem, and is it possible to get screens or gaurds fitted to stop the damage occuring.

Ugly as they are screens are the only way to prevent damage. There is obviously a recognised need for them...

P97 GT3 Intake screens
Mesh grills that are placed in the left, center and right air intakes of the front bumper and protect the radiators.

Price : 295 Euro/set Dollar Conversion
For every P97GT3, P97GT3Rennsport and P97 with Aerokit.
Factory parts.

Personally, I do not like the look of them - or the fact that you have to drill them into you front PU - They might look slightly better if painted matt black -

Other then that you have to run the gauntlet about getting damage.

I did a high speed run in Europe and my rads and condensers look as if they have been shot with a few rounds of buckshot ! Will be looking into some nice black mesh as a solution.

My GT3 always vents steam from the front bonnet louvre in the rain. It is the rain evaporating off the rads. It is only evident when in slow moving traffic or when stationary. Nothing to worry about.

Has anyone noticed a strange "Hot" smell after they have been out on a nice drive?

It is quite an unusual smell a bit like hot rubber. I have been putting it down to the newness of the car but have done over 5000 miles now and still get the pong. Nothing seems to be wrong. Could be brake pads, tyres, cat ?

Any thoughts?

The cloud9 smell is rubber getting flicked up onto the exhausts under the rear arches.... All part of the experience yes

LOL,

I drove upto Croft today, 400 miles return in pouring rain..

and experienced everything you said above, the steam is a bit alarming tbh, but i figured
that's what it was, although you could see the miffed look on other peoples faces on the motorway, looking at the car and thinking, his rads are boiling over already yikes

i can't put my finger on that smell either !!!???

its the smell that gives it away, if you can smell it (steam) its coolant leaving the system..

Thanks for the response guys, I'm glad to hear everyone seems to have the steam issue. As Glenn has said you do get some strange looks from people whilst sat in a queue, smoke pouring from the front of the car.

Also interesting to hear that you all have the strange smell, I thought that that may be linked to the steam.

I am concerned about the damage to the rads as I can see me taking to the OPC and them wanting to charge for a new set, which happened to me on the 997 C4S I had. Will keep my eye open for a solution.

It's not the steam that smells and there is no coolant leak, thank goodness.

It could well be debris thrown onto the hot exhasts as suggested. Good thought.

All the new 997's seem not to have an innner wheel arch at the rear, unlike the 996's. Porsche obviously consider them unneccesary but it does look a bit odd.

Thanks Nbetts, I was just about to fabricate some mesh grills for the GT3, saved me a lot of trial & error, my chosen engineering route!
When they arriveI will paint them black as was suggested on here.

I know that drilling holes is not desirable but apart from black tape on the inside there ain't much option. If you want to take them out for resale then I guess you can fill the holes and repaint reasonably easily.

By the way, have you tried removing the front tow eye cover; how cheap and nasty is that?
