Anyone fancy a ballpark valuation on this 964 cab (I'll be getting it inspected but wondered if there were any 964 boffins with a view)?

1989, Manual, 89,680 miles, 3.6ltr, 4 wheel drive, Dark blue, 12 months MOT, genuine 89680 miles, extensive service history including last 12 MOT certificates. Black leather interior, electric/power hood, full closure remote alarm and immobiliser, air con (not working), electric windows, electric mirrors, electric seats, headlamp wash, radio cassette and 6 CD autochanger, active rear spoiler, complete new clutch fitted 1500 miles ago with invoice to prove, engine starts 1st time and sounds great, original porsche alloys with 2 new front tyres, very good all round condition, any inspection welcome, currently in winter storage as only used in summer, reluctant sale.

Seller says that the immobiliser is a little tempermental, and the car sometimes stalls when approaching a standstill (!).

Bodywork and interior look ok and it (apparently) has no leaks after extensive remedial work in 1997.

It's been off road all winter, has no tax (sor), and insurance has run out.

To be honest it sounds to me like the guy hasn't had the funds or the interest to keep the car properly. And he's only had it since last spring and is the 9th owner.

Anyone car to have a crack at a fair price?

Just to give you something to go on, I sold a 1992 'K' 964 Carrera 2 Tiptronic cab just before Christmas, polar silver with classic grey hide, cup alloys, mirrors and sports seats, 6 owners done 124k with a fully documented history, mainly OPC but some non-franchised and with every MOT certificate. The car sold for £16k at possibly the worst time of year and in all honesty, I had a fair bit of interest!!

Hope this helps.....

£8950?

Its a good colour.

But it is a C4.

It is the early engine. With the cast alloy inlets and no head seals.

The aircon is probably just a regas, take the bloody thing off and stick it on ebay it is a cab why aircon?

The stalling at junctions concerns me, either he is setting off before the idle speed has stabilised or the idle control valve or equivalent on the 964 is faulty.

Sounds like it needs a damn good ppi to me. But may be a cheap car. low mileage which seems the be all and end all to people on here. But in 11,000 miles it's over the magical 100,000 mark!

So somewhere between £8950 and £16000 then!

But seriously, the car's up at £13,950 and he'll take £13,000.

£8950 seems very low compared to other cars i've seen on the market over the last year or so. Especially for a blue, manual with less than 100k miles. Shouldn't the necessary repairs/mods have been made to the older engine to make it as good as the later one, or are they always inferior? And how much should i budget for a the sourcing and purchase of a new idle valve?

Think I'll get the inspection done and then go in for another round of bargaining if I'm still interested.

If the inspection shows up nothing else and the stalling, immobiliser, air con etc can be fixed for, say, £1k - then perhaps £12k would be fair?!

Don`t let the number on the speedo rule your head. There is no relation between the number on the speedo and the amount of work a car has done. Besides 90,000 miles is plenty far enough if used for little journeys or around town. Similarly 10 years is pleanty of time for an engine to deteriorate after a rebuild.

It`s all down to condition. We sold one for around £8k the other day. Not the best in the world but it started on the button and didn`t stall at junctions (actually probably not a big job to cure).

£13k sounds enough money to me for a private purchase sold as it stands.

Imagine It`s done 100k mls as you look round it and if you`re still happy to proceed (and know what you`re looking at) then fill your boots.

Thanks Henry, useful advice.

I actually called in ref the £8k car you had, but think someone was already travelling some distance to see it and a purchase looked likely. I was promised a "courtesy call" to let me know what had happenend either way but this never materialised. No big deal - i know you're busy there - but sometimes it's the little touches that make all the difference.

I'll see how the inspection goes....but i prefer to buy from fellow enthusiasts if possible (unless it's a real bargain) - and I've woken up this morning feeling a little uneasy.....

My 964 would stall at junctions, my local friendly specialist put it on the diagnostic machine and found fault codes stored which were causing the problem.
These included faults associted with the air con. The faults were cleared and the car runs fine, there was no physical cause for the stalling.

If you feel that way then just leave it and take your time looking for another. While they're aren't hundreds of 964s up for sale (even Henry doesn't seem to be getting them in regularly at the moment) there are enough about that you'll find the right one at the right price if you're patient. I've already walked away from a couple and felt deflated each time but have been amazed at how quickly another prospective good one comes up. I'm very optimistic I'll find mine soon.

BTW I'm not after a cab so at least we're not competing for the same car punch

Have you ever driven a cab in the summer with the hood up? I assume not, or you wouldn't be asking the question.

And why would you have the hood up on a hot day?

Dodgy area

On the motorway

Girlfriend's just had her hair done

etc etc

We must have taken 40 calls on the car, all within 4 hours ! We do normally give courtesy calls, it may have been we couldn`t get through to you. The website was changed to "deposit taken" as soon as the buyer left us to let everyone know. At least we did the decent thing and held the car for the chap as he travelled down to see us rather than enter an auction and gazzump the car up !

Inspection done....

Engine blowing....power down.....oil leaks.....air con dead......hood leaking in two places etc etc etc.

Luckily a local expert did the inspection and only charged me £30+vat.

Lesson reinforced: always get an inspection. Or go for a post 2001 Boxster S.....

Well considering I own a 964 cab guess what yes I have.

Considering hood is down on mine warm or cold as long as it's not raining, dodgy area's don't bother me, if someone's going to have a go they will do it hood up or hood down stop being such a puff.

Motorway??? Get a wind deflector, had 170 on the speedo on mine with roof down and with the wind deflector it was perfectly relaxed.

Girlfriend had her hair done? I'm not even going to justify that with an answer, hat, headscarf, shave her head?

Incidentally to the O/P I was selling mine a few months ago, Black C2 cab with black hood and leather, although it is a LHD, and I was asking about what that car is going for but would have taken slightly less, and didn't have so much as a nibble, and my car has none of those problems, and is extremely well looked after, so it is ever so slightly overpriced, walk away.

I think the big problem is a lot of the decent 964's are being held on to now as the prices are low it just isn't worth selling them unless your desperate for the money which I'm not.

WO - are you saying your car is still for sale? If so PM me pics, description please. I'd consider LHD at the right price. I've also seen 2-3 more on Autotrader tonight so will follow them up tomorrow.
