I have a 996 GT3 whos rear diff has become noisier than usual , my OPC can find no fault even tho i tell them that when traction is broken (something that with having no traction control happens frequently )the back of the car vibrates and bangs and crashes rather than a smooth progressive 'spin up'.Has anyone else ever encountered this?

The lsd is going to be a bit noisy especially at low speeds and tight radius manouvres. Mine is worst when reversing off the drive on full lock.

Mines the same, even tighter with new plates. I have to reverse very gently!

This is normal behaviour and they all make a noise especially on tight lock and in reverse (as has already been said). The jumping around will almost certainly be axle tramp..

First thing to do would be to get an indie to change the oil - or do it yourself (correct oil please!).

Plasma nitride friction plates cure the noise problem.
Should make the LSD last much longer.

mine was noisy whenn I bought the car so had 911sport.co.uk change the oil and hey presto - much quieter!! and NO, (before someone says it, no noise doesn't mean the diffs not working!) my race car as a plated lsd that runs 120lbs preload, and makes no noise at all !

Mine's the same,I kinda like the noise, reminds you that you're in something special!

If you get excessive tramp it could also be down to nackered dampers!!!!
