They certainly made a 911 3.2 Carrera Clubsport, of which a few members have experience. They are indeed fairly rare.
yes that's the one i meant!
like a lot of people my porsche model code knowledge begins at '964' i am afraid!
(presumbly 930 is only the turbos then? i thought it was all the 'city boy shape', my mistake).
i really like the look of the 3.2 clubsport - but i don't know anything about it really...
The 911 'Club Sport' (M637) was based on the 3.2 Carrera Sport and was built during the 1988/89 model years. It incorporated weight saving, handling and performance enhancements to create a more driver focussed 911. It was intended for fast road/occassional track use and, I think, was the first Porsche model to use the 'Club Sport' nomenclature. It wasn't sufficiently radical to be designated 'RS'.
Only 340 were built, of which 53 rhd examples came to the UK in the special white/red colour schemes.
The quoted weight was 1160kg, about 75-100kg less than a typically spec'd 3.2 Carrera SE. The 'blueprinted' engine and optimised ecu boosted power to nearer 245 bhp.
From experience I can tell you that they are an absolute delight - terrific road car and pretty good on track (although even better with a few tweeks). One of my favourite 911s ever and a cheaper alternative to a 2.7RS. Also, with galvanising, G50, tough mechanicals they are very reliable. There's one that has done c.400,000 miles!
Prices are £25-35k, but most are in long term ownership, so often hard to find.
PCGB have a 911 'Club Sport' Register that will have lots more information.

thanks for the info. i'll have a look into this!
Fantastic cars
As geneve says 1988-89 model years,,,although this does mean there are some 1987 cars registered like the one Chris Harris owned.
They are more expensive than a regular carrera sport, but once you have driven one you will understand the difference and will not be disappointed.

How is a 3.2 with some script down the sides one of the nicest looking Porsches ever made?
The 3.2 CS does look good, especially in the 'metal', but also very photogenic.
Been to a couple of Porsche shows and seen several lined up, very clever. Anyone got a photo?

It is the purity of design that makes it so aesthetically pleasing, on a 3.2 you would have headlamp wash, fog lights, sunroof and rear wiper to spoil things....obviously the eye catching colour scheme helps.....definitely one of my top 3 favourite Porsche cars of all time.
It may not appeal to you, but there have also been a few bling flatnose and wide bodied turbo threads of late,,,,many different types of 911 made to suit most tastes

I have no idea why you make assumptions as to what I do or do not like but thats your prerogative I suppose.
Please show where I suggested the CS wasnt aesthetically pleasing or a good looking car?
However to suggest it is the top 3 best looking Porsches of all time ......

I was merely reponding to why "in my opinion" and perhaps others, that the car mentioned is a good looking Porsche.....I don't know if you are new to this internet lark but the smiley, usually indicated banter or jesting...........all free to share opinions on here and rarely get too precious about our own or other views to be fair mate

No not new to it at all. and my comment was based on the CS being described as one of the best looking Porsches of all time, not suggesting I dont like the look of the car or wouldnt want one, its just my opinion that it doesnt warrant the accolade bestowed upon it
