hey peeps,

looking to buy a 2.7 boxster and have been really put off by insurance costs.

i'm 25 and have 2 yrs NCB and currently drive a TT which is due to get markedly cheaper to insure next time around. i'm finding that boxster insurance at around £3k + ???

anyone know any favourite porsche/boxster insurers?

thanks

Not sure if this is helpful BUT you should try Elephant Insurance - For some strange reason they are willing to insure me for £600 for a 996 (approx value £40k), other companies were quoting me from £1200 to £3000. May i add though that i am 30 with a clean liscence and full no-claims but its worth a try, Admiral insured me at 25 for a lotus Elise for £950 which at the time was also brilliant. Just shop around.

I'd try Hagerty Insurance or AON.

Cheam brokers are quite good for porsche. Don't expect it to be cheap though, my dad pays £450 a year for his 2.7 and he's 55 with a clean license and getting on for 35 years ncb.

Not recently, weren't the best quote by a long way a few years back. Could well have changed underwriters though given the big push on advertising to performance car owners recently.

Become a member of TiPEC (www.tipec.net) & you'll get an insurance deal as part of the membership. Oh & a Halfords Trade card etc. etc. Plus you'll be with other Boxster owning members.

I've been getting quotes on a Boxster S/Cayman S: 22, 5yrs ncd- circa £3k. 996 C2 is £3.5k. I'd have thought that at 25 your quotes would be considerably less than £3k.

When I got my Civic Type R at 26 (insurance group 17) and no NCB, best way to bring the quote down to less than £1k was increasing the excess - tesco let me go up to about £1k voluntary and compulsary...its a gamble you don't crash (your fault of course) at the end of the day.

Difficult to get through to them because they're small and probably why they are so cheap. So you will not get through first time and if they promise to call you back then dont believe them. I persisted and eventually after 3 days of trying got through to someone who could deal and the first price he quoted me was £200 cheaper than everyone else I'd tried.

I was paying around £1500 for my Boxster when I had it, that was with Tesco when I was 23....

I found that by raising the excess by £100 it was bringing the Insurance down by almost the same, may be worth considering....

I have had all my Porsches insured through Tesco on line and now my 997 -I had a Boxster S at 25 and I was paying £750 though them. My 2.7 was £500 when I was 23. If you stick with them they have matched every quote I have had to date. Lots of insurers won`t look at anybody under 30 but I am paying £1250 for the 997 when it was new, and that has come down 10% again in the second year of ownership.
FYI - Direct Line underwrite Tesco - and are much the same price wise. thumbup

WTF!?

I am 35, full protected NCD, clean licence for six years and I am paying £1600 a year with Tesco.
