Following on from the 993 TT appreciation thread. I've been sat mulling over what may eventually replace my current 993. It's purely hypothetical at the moment as I've owned my C4 for two years and am still throroughly besotted by it. I plan on enjoying it for a couple more years. I've spent a chunk of money on it upgrading / refurbishing suspension, RSR exhausts and various other bits. It now looks and drives like a dream. Each time I contemplate taking it out I'm filled with the tingle of anticipation just like a teenager on a first date. However, I can't help but think about what comes next. I'd initially thought about upgrading it with the 9M billet heads but at 10 to 11K I could spend similar money and be in TT territory.

So, on the one hand the 9M upgrade would allow me to hold onto a car to which I'm very attached on the other hand a Turbo must be the pinnacle of 993 ownership. Is there something else that I haven't thought about. The more hardcore 993s don't appeal, whilst I enjoy a handful of trackdays per year I really don't want anything that is less refined then my current 993. So what do the PH Porsche owning posse prescribe? Pictures appreciated.

A 997GT3 perhaps?? I've gone 944Lux - 944s2 - 993C4 - 997GT3.

I think i'll leave it there

I'm probably going to be in the extreme minority here, but I preferred my 993 C2 to my 993 Turbo, I found it far more involving. I would go 993 RS / 996 GT3 route, but then I prefer things a little more hard core I guess...

Do you crave more power, PP?

Or will it be change for change's sake, because you feel like something new?

Looking at it analytically, my thoughts were I'd like more power and that's why I started looking at the 9M upgrade. However, the cost of the upgrade got me thinking that I may as well buy a TT. I tend not to change just for changes sake and I'm also thinking about two years ahead.

Wow! I'd love to but too much of a financial jump for me.

Quite a few 996GT3 owners are ex-993ers. It is the only car in Porsche's modernish range that is quicker than a 993 (TT included) AND, imho, offers up as much character as a 993 - if not even more.

Just as the aircooled flat-6 embues the 993 with character, there has been no finer or more charismatic engine with both the guts and glory than the GT3 powerplant.

You've probably already considered it and it has been discussed many times on PH before, but how about the supercharging kit route that 9M offer that in power-per-pound terms appears to offer pretty good value compared to the 9M head coversion?

High praise indeed Polar.... Next year the GT3 is 10 years old what's next? Went to look at a 997 GT3 RS today, the MK1 GT3 has way more character, the GT3 that feels like an RS to drive, nice smatterings of info to the steering wheel and a bit of bump steer for good measure..!!

PP, drive a few to see what you think...993TT is a good road car, has tuning potential....but not for me, you can feel the weight....GT3 has a great engine,,,as it says on the tin, it is a Gt3 car and consequently bigger and less involving.....you have a great basis in the 993 for modification to suit what you are looking for in a car. Bilstein Pss9 is a great addition to handling along with RS arbs.....then there is the telequipment range if you need some bling in your life.

It does seem a popular upgrade. Thinking about the same, though not for a while yet.

The only real issue for me is loosing some practicality and suitability for mainly road use, speed humps and all.

I wasn't referring to you two! The last thing you boys need is a hair dryer....

I meant the one with hair cool who's waiting for his new toy to turn up...
