I have always thought kits like the above is a waste of money, but am having 2nd thoughts. Does anyone here got the kit, if so the verdict?

Thanks in advance.

Ok. I'd spend; 1,Brembo (Parr) or Alcon (JZM) floating front discs and Pagid RS29pads 2, JRZ(Parr) or KW (JZM) adjustable suspension, 3, Cup crown wheel and pinion 4, engine upgrade. In that order

Good luck

Steve,
Can you explain what the Cup crown wheel and pinion does?

Manthey offer an 8:32 final drive (which is referred to as crown and pinion) for Mk 1 & 2 GT3. Stock is 9:35? The 8:32 is a shorter final drive.

How much is a new CW&P from Manthey? Is it a cup item? That must the 3's really fly. Normally swapping the diff for a lower final drive is the poor mans way of tuning, w/o suffering any reliability issues!

I drove a 993 RSCS with a lower CW&P, it was intense zapping up through the first 5 gears...this was only on the road unfortunately not the track...it really made the car seem "busy"

What I have done with the car is actually the Cup Ring and pinion 8:32, which I bought from Manthey ( as they were cheapest) and then installed at home (in Sweden).
The car is totally diffrent, not to mention performance at the Ring, I can actually take Brunnchen section in 4th gear!!, a mod I strongly can recommend. This part is a Porsche Motorsport, which can be bought from an OPC or any dealer that stocks Porsche Motorsport parts. At the same time I changed the front section to the Cup version, so the whole cage is now FIA approved. This was alsoo bought from Manthey. They are, when it comes to parts, very "cheap" and can get hold of the parts fairly quick. I have also done the airflow bit which Manthey provides with a Cup lip and has set the rear wing to 8 degrees ( max) with inserts. Rock solid at the rear. I have also bought the Manthey MM2 wheel in magnesium 2nd hand which I am to have red painted before the season starts.

The breakes I have never found insufficient ( I have stock steel brakes with stock Pagid pads) nor have I found the engine lack grunt in any rpm. But I was initially to buy just the Cargraphic double end tips, just for the looks when the discussion came up, hence my question should I treat myself to the Powerkit or not.

My perspective has always been to spend the money on good tires ( MPSC) and to do drivers courses as the Scuderia Hanseat ( I am doing my 4th in a row this spring).
If Steve was to do a toe-heel breaking course I would do that too!! But the car as they came from the factory are damn good as they are, but some times I should be allowed to treat one-self, but I am not sure if the benefits can be felt from the Power kit to justify the cost, hence my question.

Thanks again.

Any negatives with the changed final drive? Would it be bad for road use?

i.e. its not straight cut or anything is it?

Surely that would just be the obvious drawbacks? As a road car, a shorter box will change your shifting habits so that you will probably end up stirring it more or block shifting. It also ought to cause you to burn more fuel at cruise speed in top (with more noise too - long range it might annoy I guess)?

6th is so long legged I don't see it being a real problem on that front. The tyre noise is more annoying than the engine note anyway!

Read up on this a bit more on rennlist and apparently this is one way of going about it, the other is to buy a new gear set from the cup cars to replace 2 through 5 (old 5 goes to 6). These are noisy though as they are straight cut but would remove some of the drops from the nice power band you'd get even by changing the final drive.

Apparently the drawback with the final drive change is that 1st is a bit short and makes it very easy to spin the wheels up etc from traffic lights or whatever. I guess some might like that though

Anyway apparently the final drive change in the US is about 4000 USD including fitting at one shop. The cog change is about the same. Good time to change the LSD too whilst in there.

Dan,

I don't see why it should be bad. As it is a straight swop for the new final drive. Although I only use my car for road use. I tried to explain this on Rennlist (unfortunaltely to no use).

But back to topic, anyone has any experianece of the Power Kit asked?

I have.
I initially went just for the full R System because the standard exhaust was rubbish.
I tried various versions of it.Including one where the silencers were done away with,it was lovely when going for it but too much drone otherwise.
Cargraphic does 3 sound levels I went for the middle one which was brilliant.
I then had the ECU done which did make a difference.
I think the best testimony was after I sold the car to the local OPC,a potential purchaser who had driven mine and a standard GT3 said it was like driving a completely different car.
Admittedly my car also had the LWFW and a short shift which would add to the experience.
Cargraphics kit is made very well and I thoroughly enjoyed having it on my car.
I will be waiting to see what they can do for my new 997 GT3 in Riviera Blue.

Make sure that noise levels are ok for track use before you write the cheque.

Dan you're getting confused.

Gearbox gears are different to diff gears. You can't get st cut diff gears. Most have either spiral or hypoid bevals fitted. This is needed to i) spread the load, ii) the centre line of the input is not the same as the centre line of the CW&P.
