I know it has been discussed before but has anyone actually fitted rear seats into a 996 GT3 mk2.I don't want any complaining, cos its rear seats or no GT3!(according to my sons mum!)

I have not done it but on the way back from Le Mans in june a chap had his OPC do this so he could mount a child seat it was very streight forward as the GT3 is a C4 shell and retaines the mounting points if you look at any of the comfort spec cars with a Techequipment cage this is what the OPC use to anchor the rear cage mount to.
As to DVLA and type aproval a lot of cr*p is talked on the forums and the factory will put rear seats in though your UK OPC may tell you they cant.
As to the DVLA my car is a german spec (ie C00) 04 GT3 is listed as a 4 seater? go figure! you should however list it as a modification with your insurance co a sensable underwriter would load it by £100 quid or so.
Hope that helps enjoy the car they are great especaly in todays snow!

Cheers, insurance are ok about it,and I can get the bits, but some of the Porsche specialists are not sure if the seat mounts are already on the "transmission tunnel" under the carpet,so I was trying to find somewhere that has done it,rather than get someone to experiment.

I know somebody who has just done this, and asked him to post reply for you...

i sent him a message, and got this back:

not a member of PH, however u can tell them that I had my belts fitted by Quick Fit Belts in London, and Insurence approved, no cost, and child seats fit straight in, if you buy the right ones no problem

hope this helps

I asked for this and OPC Mayfair said it could not be done in my 997GT3! I just stick the kids in the back anyway and they hold onto the cut outs in the seats! I will try the people you suggested Glenn.ta

Without sounding dim, are you saying you can fit seats/belts to the back of a GT3 (996/7) and if its with an approved fitter you can get it insured without extra cost!!

If so my TT may have to wait a few years until I get the GT3 itch scratched

Try Prestige Salvage in Leeds for second hand rear seats
