I've a tasty Seal grey 996 C4S on a 53 plate, Sept 03 it's up for sale here www.pistonheads.com/sales/116304.htm at a very reasonable £43000 - with Alcantara headlining i think i forgot to mention.

The deal is..... for a black 997 S 'May 2005' 12k miles, manual, Black sports heated seats, SAT/NAV telephone mod, sports exhaust, rear parking, rear wipe,

£60k for the 997 S and he's giving me £39k for my 996 C4S - this is from a indy not an OPC !!!

That's £21 k from the banker - deal or no deal ??????

Seems steep to me..... or am i wrong?

Not too bad a price for your but the 60k for the 997 looks a bit steep, a deal with you paying around 17-18k sounds more like it although not ideal. Ideal would be a straight swap, Carlsberg dont buy and sell Porsches but if they did....

No deal........IMO an OPC would be asking £62K for the 997 and offer you around £40K for the C4S. The 997 would have been better prepped and the warranty will be better (cue; another thread on OPC warranty's).
Push for another £2K either way....tell him he can't have his cake and eat it too.
Print off a load of OPC 997's to show you have done your homework.

Sounds expensive trade to me..whats the trade bid for the 997s is the main question...£50k?..Sell your 4s for just over £40k privately which should be possible and buy a 997s for £55k privately whick looks very easy to do looking at 997s prices....saving £6k not to be sniffed at.

I find myself in the somewhat uncomfortable and unfamilar position of agreeing with Judge KayC MBE. Well, almost.

Sell your car privately, trouser the cash, then go and duff up the OPC at month end (I'd be suspicious of a non OPC 997)

Thats right sell you car privately, then pay up £10k too much at an OPC for a tarted up usually unloved trade-in or a 'finance' reclaim that has sat among another 30 cars covered in leaves/bird-shit for 2 months awaiting preparationjudge

Maybe I'm a dick, but I just wonder why such a valuable and recent car is outside the network.

I think there is very little downside in buying a 997 privately. It a good reliable car, probbaly still under warranty. Have it inspected at an OPC before you buy and pocket the 5000 - 7000 pounds that you spare.

coz the specialist offered a few K more as he does not need to make £10k on every deal, and the owner decided not to be stiffed by the OPC?

FWIW I think the offer on the C4S is very reasonable and the 997 is maybe £2k too rich - so not far off

I've been trying to sell my 996 private for a time now, i don't think i'm asking too much for it compared with other cars posted for sale here.... I'm guessing people are looking for 997's like me instead of the 996 C4S.... I seem to only to be getting offers from the trade instead of private buyers, understandable i guess.

As we all know you get a better deal if you have the reddies at hand instead of a car to trade, I'm prepared to wait as to get the right spec if i'm shelling out around £55k on a motor and i'm not even fussed about SAT/NAV... i want the sports chrono pack etc....

My mate works for the BMW place in Aberdeen he says to keep my 996 and get a deposit down on a new M3 he can get me one of the 1st few cars at his dealership..... what would you say to that???

Me being a porsche lover but i am tempted!!!

no offence intended but your car looks nice colour combo but is low spec for a C4S, sunroof and sports exhaust is it (although sports exhuast is a major + but that can thr retro-fit). Many are looking for (and many cars have) Bose, Xenons, PCM or at least some ali bits to brighten the interior.

Just think C4S look very expensive vs TT and 997.

If you can get the M3 early go for it - depreciation-proof motoring for 6 months and low for a while after that.

So you value the car at 52K then. What nonsense, a totally unsubstantiated comment, examples please of 05/05 reg 997 3.8S's with 12k miles for 52k. Come on, let's see them then. Oh, and by the way, what sort of p/ex would you expect for the C4s against this price ?

A very quick scan on Pistonheads' classifieds shows the following.

04/? reg Carrera 3.8S 21k miles £53500 PRIVATE SALE
05 / ? reg Carrera 3.8S £57995 PRIVATE SALE
05/55 reg Carrera 3.8S 6.5k miles £61500 PRIVATE SALE
05/05 reg Carrera 3.8S 9k miles £59995 PRIVATE SALE
05/ ? reg Carrera 3.8S 14k miles £57995 PRIVATE SALE

None of the above vehicles are 52k.

In the case of ? reg, assume the worst i.e 04/54 or 05/54 (not 05). A scan on Auto-Trader of Porsche 911's with 997 as the keyword and up to 2 years old (i.e up to 2005) will reveal similar prices. Don't forget, there is no p/ex option of the 996 C4S on these cars either.

Enough said I feel. The normal unsubtantiated internet forum nonsense comment.
