I have just taken the plunge and gone from 99T C2 Cab to 04 997 C2S and the difference is worth it!

Anyone debating the merits of 996TT and 4S against 997 must must reconsider.

I agree on the 997 s being way better than the 996 c4s...the latter being pound-for-pound one of most disappointing cars ive owned..996tt however way better and shouldnt even be compared with the other two cars...soapbox

Yawn!!!!! A personal opinion, not truely representative of the majority. The C4S is a wonderful car, a complete all rounder. If you'd like a aurally lacking, non-NA car, albeit one with greater power consider a Turbo, I did but it did leave me unimpressed, on most tracks the difference is marginal.

Welcome tgm to the fantastic world of the 997 c2s...You will not regret it.
And even though this wonderful forum has its revolvers "revolving doors" you will be glad you stepped into the light mate.
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten!!
Enjoy the ride........

Welcome to the world of 997. Good choice. What spec did you go for?

I'm quite interested however in the pros and cons of both, so answer away............. What does the 9096 C4S give you and what makes the 997S better?

Answers please..........

Many thanks.

Easy..996c4s gives you a fat lardy body,4wd,and leaves out the best parts..the turbo engine and box etc (less engine issues with tt's).997s is a better made car,2wd(which in general is nicer),more torquey engine, and much better looking..imho of course. When i sell the 996tt i will probably go for a nice spec 997s,there is no way i would sell a tt to buy a c4s however as the c4s offers no upside on a tt.
Quitely preparing myself for some backlash.paperbag

Ta, but I think the drop top C4S is a mighty fine looking motor. Just wanted to know what the £15k above a 996 C4S for a 997S gets me. Never driven a 996, quite familiar with the 997S. Do you think I would notice a 'huge' amount of difference stepping into a 996 after a 997??

Would like to know.

Thanx.

I think you will be disappointed going from a 997 to a 996,quality on the 996 is not so good and obvioulsy its not as quick. As you say fat-body cars look better but dont actually drive as well as narrow body cars..i drove the 997tt back-to-back with a 997s and apart from the speed of the tt i actually preferred the 997s .

So would you rate the 996TT as the only 996 to buy, or really just stick to the 997?

In order of ownership i had 993 c2s(6 months),996c4s(6 months),996gt3 (4 months), and i now have had the 996tt for 2 years which should answer your question a bit.It depends what you want but the tt imo is the perfect sports car for the road(not track)..reliable,safe,and most importantly bloody quick. The tt is also a better engineered engine/gearbox than the other 996s'.I think the 996tt is the only 996 that looks as good as its 997 replacement(mainly because the 997tt is a tad 'bling').You can also do some reasonably cheap mods on the tt to make it seriously quick but still just as useable as before.(and they are cheap cars to buy now as well).thumbup

Wow .. That's an interesting comment kc , I think lots of folk will be head scratching when changing from an n/a 996 , trying to decide between TT / 997s for their next motor.

Do you really feel you'll be happy with the 997s after TT ownership ?.. That's one hell of a step down engine -wise..

You are right ..the 996tt is leagues above the 996/997 n/a cars, however a change is as good as a rest sometimes and i do think the 997s is a superb looking car.If you own a n/a 996 and want to feel a massive performance change the 996tt is the way forward..especially with some ecu trickery...then awesomely quickthumbup

I think the 997 just feels better dialled in - the good bits of a 993 without the bad bits (he says with crossed fingers noticing a slight knocking sound). I really enjoyed driving the C4S 996 and still think it is one of the best looking cars Porsche have made but personally I needed to get a better experience after a dull C2s Cab 3.4 which was great looking but a bit gutless and no different from a Boxster S in grunt. The 996tt is always a car that makes you think - I must have one of those though..

Come on, some of us do fit in the back and haven't worked in a circus for a whole week.
