It was faster than a 996 GT3 RS by a reasonable margin. Lots more low down torque to haul it out of the corners. Will be interesting to see if the effect is as pronounced on a faster circuit as I think the 996 suffers a bit by falling out of its main power band whereas the 997 just has torque across the whole rev range - and closer gearing.

The chap who was quick in his 997 GT3 wasn't too happy with his ceramics though!

I had to leave early due to a suspected wheel bearing on its way out.

Thanks for the ride Dan, much appreciated. Shame about the bearing.

Thanks also to Steve Rance for driving my car and giving excellent advice to improve the handling - whether it'll improve my driving or not ...

Thanks for a straight forward, factual post! I can't believe it - the owner of a 'rival' version not twittering on about differing tyres/brakes/suspension mods etc.etc. I'm sure you're right and the margin would close on a more open circuit.

Steve Rance's 996 GT3 RS has a superb set-up courtesy of Parr Motorsport. It's my all time favourite and satisfying drive. Lots of confidence inspiring feed back, plus it manages to extract more mechanical grip from the Michelin Cup Tyres than any other GT3/GT3 RS I've driven to-date.

Factor in Brands Indy circuit is one of Steve's favourite circuits it says a lot that the 997 GT3 was getting away from him at quite a rate, not just edging away.

All bodes well and I'm really looking forward to collecting my 997 GT3 RS.

Having seen them all perform side by side today, it's the new 997 GT3 owners that will be smiling because it was probably the fastest thing on track and that included a new 997RS. I was also mightily impressed by the sheer grunt and acceleration of the new turbo. The 997 seems to have taken the Porsche trackday toys to a completely new level

An envious 996 owner

The black GT3 RS was only collected on Saturday so I think the owner has yet to get the measure of the car. We already know that the 997 GT3 RS is giving 425+ bhp and Glenns car has shown 445bhp (I think that's what the read) after a bit of tweaking on the ECU. Serious grunt from 3.6 litres.

Dunno. He thought it was brake fade, but Paul Robe of Parr thought it may be the ABS as it was only on one corner. The guy was quick though and said he hadn't had that issue on his 996. I think it will be a while before we get the measure of the new version.

Had a ball but am struggling to get maximum enjoyment when I spend half my time moving over to let GT3's through !! My mere 231bhp (circa 1988 !) is simply swallowed up and spat out by the GT brigade. The only place at Brands where I can hold on to the newer machinery is through Surtees.

Have to say the majority of GT3 drivers were well behaved towards me and appreciated I was trying my hardest to both enjoy myself and keep out of their way. The bloke in the blue 997 Turbo, however, seemed to think I could disappear into thin air every time he came near me - I paid as much as you to be on that bit of track mate so give me a bit more space to let you through next time buddy !!

What a fab day. Great weather, good number of Pork on track, and excellent fun to be had by all (I think!). That white 7GT3... bow The silver 930 Turbo was brill: should have hung some sausages out the back with the flames he was shooting out!

This 930 ? ;-)

I took about 1000 pictures yesterday so there will be a very large selection uploaded to my site at www.cannell.co.uk/Events.htm probably by thursday - I'm at Donington today. I'll update this post when they're published.

Rick.
