Is there a "price guide" for 964s?
Discussion
As per title, I am slightly perplexed by the difference in pricess. Assuming you are looking for a good 964, I have seen anything from a 120K m targa with a recent engine re-build going for 14.5K, to some "splendid examples" (their words) over at the Porsche Club UK going for £18+K.
So, any guidance for us mere mortals? Are targas more/less expensive than coupes?

Cabs and especially targas tend to be cheaper than coupes. No real price difference between C2 and C4. A recent documented engine rebuild (at least top-end) is a plus, as is recent clutch/flywheel and suspension.
18K+ is a bit toppy - you'd expect an immaculate car with all the above and under a 100K miles for that. You should be able to get a good solid RHD C2 coupe for around 15K.
Cheers

There's a nice one here. I've seen the car and it's a beauty.

I strongly advise you to have a look at this one www.pistonheads.com/sales/123769.htm - it's mine, it's a very good one and I'm open to offers !
The Guy that runs PCGB 964 register has a mint 964 Targa for sale at £16995, the car has done 90k and is worth every penny. You have to view the cars check them over and get them inspected as everyone thinks there car is worth £15-£17k go on condition and history and then decide yourself whether the car is worth the money and negotiate.

PCGB members are notorious for over-pricing cars. Some things in the mag are pure fantasy land.
So, is the PCGB Secretary's targa which is for sale for £17K overpriced? From memory, I think it has about 90K miles but no engine rebuild. It's probably in excellent condition though!

There's a wide range of 964 prices which, in my view, reflect a couple of things.
1) The condition; not just bodywork & whether or not the engine has had a rebuild, but a whole host of other (in some cases small) things. Tyres, brakes, dampers, lights, seals, clutch, flywheel, service history, etc etc etc.
It is quite possible to buy a 964 and run it for a year without spending anything...but if the next buyer does the same, at some point the little things that have been neglected will, potentially, all need doing at once.
2) How quickly the owner needs/ wants to sell the car.
I'm not selling mine, but I've had it 3 years and would expect to sell it for about £17-18k. 120,000 miles but NOTHING needs doing. Equally, it would be easy to go and spend £12k on one and need to spend a few £££ getting it to the standard of mine.
Incedentally, I know of a guards red 964 C2 coupe which will be for sale soon; last owner for 13 years and is agruably better than mine! (RS brakes & wheels for starters). Will be top end of the 964 price spectrum for obvious reasons.
