Looking into changing from the M5 (too heavy for track driving) to a 996.

However, after much searching on google and forums I'm finding it hard to find the differences between different models and what the actual improvements are.

So what are the differences between:

early 3.4L 996 C2
late 3.6L 996

I know the power difference is 20bhp but what other differences are there? 0-60, 0-100, better brakes? Better suspension? Better build quality?

Are here any known problems with the 3.4 L engine?

Info much appreciated.

Get hold of a copy of 911 & Porsche World Magazine - issue 153/December 2006, it has a great feature on page 78, 996 Buyers' Guide , everything you need to know about the history and changes made through its lifecycle.

The 3.6 996 (also known as the 996 'facelift') was introduced in late 2001 for the 2002 MY.

It actually incorporated quite a lot of mechanical, chassis, design and quality improvements.

As a result a 3.6 is normally more money (£30k +), but probably worth it.

and once you have a grip on the model changes, then you have to look into the varying options the cars where specced with.

if its a track weapon your after you have to get the sport chassis verion with comes with LSD and the uprated suspension (which aint too stiff to be honest) ohh and a manual car, obviously.
