Just had a call from the OPC regarding a wheel recall/check with the alloys on the 997 GT3. Hopefully, they find my front left wheel defective - it saves me having to get the scuffs re-furbed.

The recall is only for unscuffed front right wheels apparently.

I can just hear the conversation now, "Sorry sir, your warranty is void due to impact damage on that particular wheel" hehe hehe

Well my wheels are at the factory at the moment (or maybe still dont exist yet!) so they can inspect them before they put them on the car laugh

What is the reason for the recall?

Apparently Manufacturing Defects - I will let you know on Monday once my car has been seen by OPC.

Ok - An update. Took my 997 GT3 into the OPC today. The recall is around the depth of the ledge that the centre cap sits in. One my Centre-caps was sitting slightly proud - so the OPC replaced the wheel with a brand new one.

It would appear that some of the wheels on the 997 GT3 have this defect - If Porsche feels your car falls into this batch of cars the OPC will call you and do the check free of charge.

Sadly for me, the wheel that had this slight error was not the one I had scuffed... rolleyes

Defintely. It is only the ledge where the Plastic centre cap fits. Some wheels had the ledge machined to shallow.

You can tell yourself whether you have this issue if any of your centre caps appear to be a bit proud/ not seating correctly.

that is rdiculous, Porsche are prepared to replace wheels where the cap sit a mil or two too low, but won't replace RS wheels that are falling apart!
