someone told me this was easy to do in a late 993 (not so easy in an early car) but i'm buggered if i can find anything in my manual about it.

i've done a search on here too without coming up with anything (although there was vague mention of the seat!?).

anyone know how it's done?

thanks phelix.

this is one of the threads i read too and it mentions.....

Later 993s (MY 1996 on IIRC) can be done the official way with the bar/seat belt clip arrangement under the passenger seat I believe.

.....can anyone elaborate on this?

It is alleged that later 993s (I've never seen one) have a bar below the seat. If you purchase a proper Porsche child seat it has a seat belt tongue that you clip into this bar thus deactivating the airbag whlst the seat is in situ. I believe that you can also have this system retrofitted by an OPC. Remember it only works with a proper Porsche seat.

The other method described above permanently deactivates the airbag. This is the unofficial workaround method that uses a soldered in resistor. An OPC is very unlikely to do this for you due to liability issues. I also think most Indys would be reluctant.

May I ask why you want to deactivate the airbag? I put both my kids in the back it's much safer.

I need to transport both my 4 year old and a 5 month old - and the stage one seats don't fit in the back. Hence i need to turn off the passenger airbag to accomodate the stage one seat/base in the front.

My wife isn't going to be happy. I'd told her that the 911 was a very practical second car - and I'm supposed to be dropping off/picking up the kids next week so she can go out!

I see your poblem. There may be an alternative stage one seat that will fit in the back. Have a look on the PCGB 993 forum.

I looked into this on prior 993's and found the option is 'dealer fit' opc will fit the bar into which the porsche carseats clip into in order to de activate the airbag.

I also spoke to local indi and they could also do it.

Not that it makes any diff but that was on a 1998 model.
