You might want to buy the Clarkson(depending if you value his opinion) DVD on Europe best vs USA. I think he said that they have made it a great track car but so much so that it was now unsuitable for roads.
You can't take anything JC says on TV seriously. All done for effect. Regarding the Z06, he reviewed it in his regular sunday times article when it came out and loved it I seem to remember. Now it's `unusable` on the road when he's doing a TopGearesque hours worth of US vs UK tripe (Yes, i did regret buying it!). Judging by the number of seemingly very satisfied customers who are using it predominantly on the road, i reckon it's very likely no where near as bad as he makes out.
IMO it's one of the performance car bargains. You'll not go faster for less.
An awfull lot of bang for your buck. In isolation it performs very well too - especially on track where the shortcomings of over hard suspension are disguised. On UK roads however I think you'll find it crude and harsh compared with your 997S or indeed a GT3 - current or 996. Finish is poor compared to Porsche in all areas and the interior is particularly nasty. Great fun though but you may get frustrated watching a Porsches disappear ahead of you down your favourite B road and on track - which they will when the Zs brakes turn to pastry after a handfull of laps (although there are upgrades available).Lots of exotic materials btw - including balsa wood!!

I love the Z06. It's the only Corvette I rate though. I love the uprated engine, you can't beat a Chevy V8, and certainly not one with 500+ BHP. The car is not too heavy either. Light weight materials used and lots of tasty exotic modifications. It has set a storming Ring time. I don't view it as being in the same camp as other lesser Vettes though. It would have to be a Z06 or no Vette at all.

That was my reason for adding(depending if you value his opinion) bit

I chased David Yu's round Donington for a few laps and he had no problems with brakes.

Also - and I'm sure David can speak for himself on this - I believe DY's car is running the uprated brakes I alluded to, the originals having given up the struggle fairly swiftly. Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
