Buying from an independent
Discussion
Presumably as you're comparing to an OPC you're looking at 996's or 997's. If so, then I think I speak for the general concensus on here by sayying if you buy from outside and OPC then make sure you have the car checked by an OPC (111 point check for about £130) and get an OPC warrantee on it (£895 per year). Don't be fobbed off with some wothless piece of 3rd party warantee that's not worth wiping your derrier on.
I think you get what you pay for. I've dealt with both on a number of occassions and always found the OPC to be better in pretty much every respect, but you pay a premium for it.
Depends what you want and how much grief.
In my personal experience, the OPC's have always sorted everything out with zero hassle. Generally the Indy's I've dealt with have been lots of aggravation; but as I say, you pay for it!

I've bought a few cars from OPC's and generally had a good experiences - with one exception..!My last car was from an Indy.... Sterling cars (no affiliation!) and the service was impeccable - car delivered FOC (over 200miles) and replacement trim with no quibble....
Obviously not all dealers are the same - good and bad in both OPC and Indy dealers.....

I've bought two 911s from the same sales guy at OPC Mayfair and found the experience extremely positive. However, you do pay a big premium for it. Those endless cups of coffee, sitting in their shiny new air conditioned office and getting that bottle of Champagne as you drive off don't come for free...!!
On the flip side I've developed a good relationship with the guy and in my experience if things go wrong (which they have a few times) the guys do make a special effort for a 'loyal customer'.
I'd have no problem buying either a 996/997 from an indy as long as they were happy for the car to have the 111 point check at an OPC and a Porsche warranty put on the car. Any indy that refuses this I'd walk away from asap.

Paying £5k is a bit excessive to make a new friend...unless you find him kinda cute

Cheeky fecker..!!
I've had a few issues with my 997 (not all of which should've been covered by the warranty) and had these fixed without any quibbles from the OPC.
Agree though that the premium for the "Porsche experience" of buying from a shiny showroom is about £5k and you lose that the minute you turn the key... scary thought.
If you're getting the OPC check and warrantee done, in some respects it doesn't matter who you buy from - apart from the fact that if you're dealing privately you have to take extra precautions to make sure the car and seller are genuine. It's all down to who's got a nice, well maintained car in the spec you want at a price you're prepared to pay.
I am just buying a 996 C2 from a non-porsche main dealer. They were happy to let me put down a deposit whilst I had the check done - which would have been refunadable if it failed ... fortunately it didn't!
The benefit of going to an indie is they may have more than one car for you to look at under one roof.
