A friend has gone to look at a car which was billed as an '02 plate 996 with a 3.6 engine.

He naturally assumed the car would be a face-lift model, but this turned out not to be the case. The car is actually pre face-lift.

The owner reckons that Porsche did make some late pre-face lift cars with the 3.6 engine. Does anyone know if this was the case?

Sounds a bit fishy to me as I thought the 3.6 facelifts were launched some time in 2001.

Any idea why a pre-face lift would have been registered in '02.

sounds dodgy to me.

the Facelifts came in late 2001 - the first ones were 51 plates.

I know of no pre-facelifts made after 2001, and certainly of none with the 3.6 engine.

Agreed - the 3.6 engine was part of the facelift...

Thanks for that 2something, that post pretty much confirms what the owner is claiming. So I guess it could be a late registered pre-face lift car. Still leaves the question of what it is actually worth. It's done 33,000 miles and its a C2. Silver with black leather.

Well it's an internet forum, so would definitely double check with Porsche - oh the irony ...

Personally would say it's worth same as a pre-facelift, or facelift minus cost of facelift. As a blind, drunken stab in a pitch black room maybe 32k private. But someone will be along soon with more of a clue.

Yep, I know what you're saying and will definitely look to confirm. Don't want to perpetuate those interweb Chinese whispers do we!

However, that kind of mirrors exactly what a couple of other guys have said, which is interesting in itself. From what I have seen 32K might just get a proper face-lift as a private sale, so my guess would be somewhere around the 30K mark.

I guess it's a hard car to value when you see the prioce difference between early face-lifts and late 3.4s.
