997 GT3 driving experience
Discussion
I recently (due to unforeseen cancellations) took my own car on a GT3 day at Millbrook (mainly in the company of 997 turbo owners to be)
great half day
arrived for breakfast, have breakfast with your one to one instructor, drive from hotel to millbrook with instructor giving useful practical advice for optimum road driving, arrive at Millbrook, onto the highspeed bowl, gradually increase speed as you move to outer lane of bowl, demonstrate laws of physics by encouraging hands off steering wheel at three figure speeds and let car find its own way round (it does), onto the handling circuit, instructor drove my car for a couple of laps explaining the lines, braking points (late late late) etc and the jump! then hop back in and do it for yourself trying to remember the circuit and what the instructor is saying (even over half a dozen laps you do improve as your familiarity increases)onto the one mile? straight and some flat out pure speed runs back and forth (car felt more perky after that, the (rare for me) flat out runs must have revised the ECU settings)drive back to hotel and sign off, with an invitation to participate in the more advanced driver training sessions Porsche run (not cheap but probably on a par with others).
Great taster, for me the thing I appreciated most was the gulf in ability between someone who could drive at a professional level and me (same as in all professional sports), and how much more the car could be exploited to its maximum effect in skilled hands. Also I really did notice that the car appeared at least to be more free revving and responsive after the max revs runs on the mile straight.

Hi Guys,
Has anyone been on their 997 GT3 driving experience yet? I had my invite to Milbrook today (although the car doesn't arrive until March) & wondered what the day consists of & if there are any benefits to the am or pm slots etc etc.
Cheers for any input.
I believe AM owners are asked to park their cars round the corner and arrive on foot! Has anyone been on their 997 GT3 driving experience yet? Cheers for any input.

Pugs...I would have done that anyway, wouldn't want to upstage
the GT3 at it's own party
Sadly I can't make the 12th, which is shame, because you may have been in a good mood & let me thrash your car
around Milbrook after session end, purely in the interest of checking that all is ok with the handling you understand! Cheers Andrew for the info., sounds like fun, but I think lunch then a blat sounds better than getting up at the crack of dawn for the early session!

Some of them, I am told, have to park on low loaders for the return journey to the factory ....
Certainly a DB9 was under intense scrutiny when I was there, muttered cellphone call and furrowed brow job.

My GT3 is due in April but haven't had an invite yet. Is it worth contacting my OPC? He did mention it last May when i put my deposit down.
I chased mine several times but all the invites seem to be arriving about now so maybe give it a week and then chase them? Could be you'll be in second batch as your car is in second quarter? Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
