I often look at www.adgsevenoaks.co.uk/ as I've bought/sold from/to them in the past and like looking at what they've got.

Look at the 996 there. Looks like a bargain to me - what do you think?

(By the way, no affliation at all - just the only dealer that I actually trust!)

does look very nice.

comparing with my own recent trawling, i can add it to the list of 25K cars which spreads from celebration 964 (1993) through the lower end rolleyes 993s to this 1998 model 996. talk about rock solid residuals laugh

Yeah - but I bet it didn't go for less than the amount ADG's paid for that one - unless it's SOR of course.....

I wouldn't say a 1998 996 at £26k was a bargain personally.

With that mileage I thought it was a pretty good deal - prices have obviously dropped a bit more than I'd realised.

I understand the point you're making about the spread of cars in that price bracket, but that 996 is 8-9 years old and has only lost 2/3 of it's value from new. It's still the sort of residual that most other manufacturers can only dream of.

no, actually I wasnt having a crack at the 996 - it was a genuine comment of appreciation. basically it seems that your average 911 model falls only so far and then for 4-5 years just stops meaningful depreciation. that is quite something

The lowest I've seen is a LHD black 996 advertised privately for £17500

In reality an everyday car that's got a blend of performance, and practicality for under £25k, I think they're all a bargain.

Plus, it's a Porsche!

I've been looking for about 6-7 months and the going price for a 98 996 seems to be around 22 to 24K. The problem with these older cars is you'll only be able to get one more year OPC warantee on them, which is probably a reason there are a lot on the market now. This one has a low mileage, so I'd say 24K would be a good price to pay. Those that are sub 22K are either high mileage, tiptronics, unpopular colours or savannah interiors. If you want a high mileage, red, tiptronic with savannah interior, then expect to pay under 20K.

That'd be a pretty expensive drive. £10k to go the length of their forecourt.

Colchester OPC have a 98 996 with 46K miles for 28K, which is more the price I'd expect for a main dealer ...

http://ucl.porsche.de/ucl/plsql/uk/cl

Still, you'd only get one year warrantee and then it would be worth 23K ish.

Perhaps if you had you interior re-trimmed in red leather it would be worth more?

I know what you mean Kay - apparently Black with Black is just so 'out' at the moment
