Just bought a 944 to use as daily hack.

The car has the standard porsche alarm fitted at the time of build and that is it.

My insurance that the car has replaced are asking for TH1 or TH2 to be covered for theft.

Anybody know of any companies that do not ask for this?

The car will sit on a private driveway and be used for S,D, P & commuting.

It has 9 years no claims to go on it.

Alternatively what is the cheapest Thatcham system I could put on?

Thanks

You could get a Laserline 921K Cat 2 immobiliser fitted for around £150

Hope you dont mind me asking, but I noted on your profile you have 3 Porsches yet you are using your no claims on your 944. How do you insure the other 2. Just curious to know as I have difficulty insuring 2.

No not at all.

The 964RS and GT3 are both on limited mileage policies with A Manning and include all track days. They actually match my 9yrs no claims from my other car on the GT3 aswell.

The 944S2 is now a day to day hack but Direct Line (who my old daily hack was with) want TH1 or 2. The quote with Mannings for the 944 was more than my other two put together because it has to sit on a driveway so they can't do a limited mileage policy. Try them their customer service is superb.

Magic - 3 is not greedy, when I get to 5...then maybe

Jase, if its got the original Porsche alarm thats equivalent to Thatcham 2 and if the immobiliser thingy is there too then you should be doubly sorted.

Thanks for that info, I looked at buying a 993 or 996 last year as a second car, and was told that regards insurance I would have to insure it under a second policy. Since I could not use my no claims on a second policy I had to start from scratch, then nobody would insure such cars without any no claims discount. I ended up buying a 964 as I could insure it reasonably on a classic policy, no regrets great car, but disapointed that red tape held me back from getting the car I wanted.
Thanks Simon.

Mark its just the factory original alarm...which is before thatcham categorisation.

The other 2 have the Porsche PA1000 system...which as you say is Thatch 1.

Not sure about long loan although I have just sold a car to a mate at 0% over 30 months! I'm getting soft in my old age...

Your welcome to hitch a ride round Donny though anytime...

It's weird that Direct Line don't want proof of a Thatcham alarm for my 964 but they did for my MR2.

Oh and on an M3 worth 1/3 of the amount they wanted a tracker too!
