Guys interesetd in a car thats for sale in Singapore. Struggling to establish exactly the obstacles in my way.
I know I need to sort out SVA and registration which for a Porsche 911 should be OK.
Problem is with import taxes.
I know 17.5% applies to landed costs but is their any other tax. Car will be over 5 years old and used.
Any help appreciated.

Make sure you are happy with it`s value once landed. It will be very hard for a potential purchaser to establish provenence in terms of the car`s previous life and as such it will effect the value. You might have to pay 10% car tax on the car when you import it as well.

edited to add - worth adding a few quid to cover minor damage in transit as well, not uncommon to have to paint the odd panel or replace the odd stolen part !

wouldn't a car for sale on singapore be more expensive than a similar one in the Uk as they have something like 200% tax on cars? Don't see the point of going through all the trouble!

There was a white, US-spec 996 turbo advertised on here over Christmas for 23K from singapore (can't see the ad any more). I had just assumed it was a typo or wind-up. If it was true, then would be worth the costs importing it.

AFAIK,
The majority of the cost of car ownership is the license which is transferable. Due to the prohibitive nature of this cost, the actual car cost is rather depressed, so when you boil away the actual license you are theoretically left with a rather small amount.
In theory makes buying in sing attractive, but fully landed costs and SVA etc narrow the margin somewhat.

for comparison, a 2001 996TT would be HK$1,000,000 in Hong Kong, where the exchange rate is STG 1 = HK$15, so it would be STG 66,000. Cars are cheaper in Hong Kong than in Singapore.

Thanks for comments guys. Have spent countless emails with this seller and thought it worth an update.
Car 2001 996 tt with 18K Miles. Original US car imported to Singapore.
Photos and ownership seem OK.
BUT, he will not let my friend who lives local nor Porsche Singapore inspect the car! Some tosh about I dont trust him! Told him, no never met him and of course dont trust him.

Decided to pull out.

P.S. If you want to import to UK its 10% of landed price (cost + shipping + insurance) import duty then 17.5% VAT on that total.

Hasn't put me of an import but might try Europe.
