Hi

Quick newby question..............!

I am considering a 944 purchase. I have had a good search on this forum and have owned a 924 Turbo and a 911 SC.

I am thinking of buying an early 944 (if I can find a good one) as I quite like the early retro feel to the interior! (ie: non oval dash)

A friend of mine used to work for AFN when Porsche were selling the 944 and he tells me that the early cars were good enough but they had poor/harsh ride quality when compared to the later models? Is this the case?

Any observations from owners?

Thanks

Jules

even the "newer" variants are, by definition, now old cars. It is a testament to the original engineering that so many remain serviceable and in regular use. I would encourage you to set a budget, try to stick roughly to it (whilst setting aside a grand for getting it up to scratch) and get the best condition car for your money, irrespective of model type. If you are set on an older model I would wave the flag for the 2.7lux, a real sleeper in the line-up - ok its got an oval dash but the 8v 2.7 is very reliable, robust, more torquey low down than the 2.5 and less prone to going pop than the 16v variants

edited to add that at this age the ride quality is far more likely to reflect the individual condition of the suspension parts than general model characteristics

Most rot I had was on one of my later 944s, & other S2s or turbos are often suffer the same fate, slightly odd to say why but im also a fan of the early 944s over later cars, love the odd dash, early cars are lighter too.

As stock an early lux doesnt have a harsh ride tho, bit too soft really, but pretty much all stock cars will be in need of full suspension refresh anyhow.
