test drove v8 vantage comparison to my gt3
Discussion
Had the day off so decided to drive to grange of exeter managed to take a vantage for a test drive. i'm sorry to say that i was not overly impressed. It just did not feel like a proper sports car. i could not believe how poor the visibility was out of the front screen due to the angle of the screen and the height of the dash. The salesman was very good and let me stretch the cars legs but it just did not have the same kick as my gt3 with my fabspeed system. The aston is a beautiful car to look at and it certainly had something about it. but when i had finished and got back in my gt3 i realised just how right my car feels and how easy it is to drive i had a fun trip home.
I can see why the aston is such a success but after getting useed to my porsche the only reason to change would be purely based on looks and i'm sure i aint that shallow.am i?
cheers martin.

Thats nice to hear as Id love to own one of those Aston things but I stick with the GT3!
Slightly off topic Martin but I'm considering the fabspeed exhaust. I had one on a 996 & liked the sound. Couple of qs, if I may:
- Is the sound deep or screamy (u know what I mean!)
- Did u fit the whole system manifolds/race cats or just the rear boxes
- have u had it remapped since?
Em me if u dont want me hijacking thread

I was lucky enough to buy my car a few months ago with the fabspeed already fitted. it has the cats and silencers fitted. it sounds awesome very deep low down and turns ito a howling scream up top with an amazing after crackle on the over run.It was fitted by scuderia systems so i was told. I can't imagine putting the original system back on. just a shame it is too noisy for castle coombe.

The visibility is something you get used to.
It's a very different place to be compared to a fishbowl 996 and I assume 997.
A GT3 compared to a V8? Thats a big difference in focus of the cars. The GT3 is going to feel loads more agile and fast.
But the V8 handles really well once you get used to it. Much better drivers car than its given credit for. Im still going back to the land of Pork soon though but it doesnt make the V8 anything but a great car.

Why compare two cars that are very obviously different? The Aston is a comfortable but fast and pointy GT (as far as I'm aware) and the GT3 a pared down road and track special. An V8V shirley would never feel as immediate as the GT3 but the GT3 would never feel as stately as the Aston.
I love both cars (though haven't driven either I hasten to add) but see them as different propositions.
Like comparing an Integra Type R with an RX-8.

Must agree there.
I'm getting a new GT3 in a few months and am pretty sure I'll enjoy it for what it is. Next time I might fancy something a bit less focused and 'stately', in which case I'd definately be having a look at the Aston.
