The 911 spending the last month or so either in the garage, or plodding along the M4 dancing between traffic and roadworks, while you never doubt why you bought a 911...

When we decided to go for a walk on Christmas eve, as we drove into the countryside on the quiet, twisting roads, suddenly the car comes alive, squirting from corner to corner, the slippy roads meaning I was wary of how hard to push her, but still getting the back stepping out four times, 3 under power, once without.

But again, ignoring all the horror stories, as the back steps out under power, it is so easy to hold, the traction control doing its thing meaning your only left with a rather impressive slide out of a corner, stroking your ego more than you really deserve. As for the unexpected breakaway, again the car was controllable, and just helped the adrenaline levels.

I had forgotten just how big of a smile the Porsche could put on your face, so communicative, so powerful and just so much fun, even on a cold slippy A-road in the winter, its such an entertaining drive!

Oh yeah!

I decided to take my car out for a post christmas dinner "spin" today. "wanna come with me I asked my bro"

"yeah alright" he said

roads were nice and greasy and there wasnt a soul about. Lots of loud pedal I thought.

half an hour later, lots of tail slides and more than our fair share of psm tailendery and we stop on the drive to the soulful tunes of my bro saying "im gonna be sick "

great drive

My wife wanted to pay a visit to her fellow colleagues (she's am MD) as they were on duty... she asked if I'd take her to Hospital, I said: "Sure but I'll take the Porsche and the long way!". Better said than done, next thing I know I was doing 160mph on a new twisty and empty motorway carving throught it as if I was driving a twisty road taking advantage of the extra power that comes with the lower temperatures...

Hi all

Agreed we took the Porker to the Mother in laws and again used it today and it was awesome exactly as you say it reminds you why you have it. Fantastic!

Mine sprung a fearsome oil leak last week. I'm waiting for the Christmas holidays to be over so I can book it in to PCT for some TLC [££££££££]

Great to read that Fidg.

As I said a few months ago, if you use them every day you forget just how great they are.

Having to work between crimbo and new Year However to compensate I left the wife and sprogs at the in-laws in Chester and ripped it back home - M6 toll road was particular fun although I do have to replace the 5 candle power lights SOON - now what was that HID website again?

I went for the pre-dinner route. Half an hour squirming about on derestricted Suffolk roads. And at the 'turn' I saw a lovely red 360 out doing the same!

Car is now FILTHY...

and took her out for a little dusk spin... and as cruising through a nice 30 zone on the way to some 'fun' roads, what should happen to creep up to my back bumper... but a Lamborghini Gallardo!

Now, I know in the performance stakes I don't stand a chance, but I was in front... and we certainly had fun*

And, i have to say, I probably pushed the 996 harder then than I have before*, and she blew my mind... it was simply stunning...

The girlfriend described it as 'being better than any ride at alton towers', and we both had a hell of an adrenaline rush*.

I simply adore this car, and its moments like this that make the ownership just so special, and so worthwhile...

*obviously all within the applicable speed limits, road laws and highway code officer

Yes this time of year is a great time to just go out and drive them. They seem to go so much faster on the empty roads - It must be that they like the cold air biglaugh

and again, the 996 leaves me amazed, caught in torrential rain when out for a blast, and if anything, through the storm, and huge amount of standing water, it performed better than any other car I have had!

My lexus used to really suffer from standing water, the Porsche just shrugged it off as if a pothole...
