Just in process of swapping my beloved Vectra for a Boxster - just got to do the Porsche thing at some stage in your life!!

Slightly daunting going through the second-hand purchase and keen to get some back-up with a warranty. Does anyone have any experience of Motorcare policies? Are they worth it, or should i stick with the official Porsche dealer cover (£900)...

Appreciate any thoughts and advice.

If the OPC warranty is available then I think it is unbeatable.

If this is the one that covers TVRs then it was worth it for me when I had the TVR. (Need confirmation from someone else who had the cover...)

out of interest, can you get a warranty on a car that's been serviced for previous owners at specialist garages?

Yes, you can even continue to service it at as specialist without voiding the warranty.

Had mine serviced at Parr, they mentioned a few things that needed doing that were covered by the warranty. Phoned the OPC, took the car over and they did the warranty bits.

As long as the service is done to Porsche's spec (parts and timings) you're fine.

Sorry I'm late.

Three rules.

1. Buy the OPC warranty
2. Buy the OPC warranty
3. Buy the OPC warranty

£18 a week is CHEAP for peace of mind, when a new engine is £12,000 and a new gearbox is £8000.

I have owned two vechile's in the past covered by an official porsche warranty. I never made a claim on the first one, but the second one I had the whole audio system changed and the brakes skimmed and replaced. Porsche never quibbled just did the work.
I now have a motorcare warranty because its an older 911, I have had no cause to claim so far ( touch wood), but when you read the small print the amount of get out clauses written in is simply staggering.
So if I was you I'd take versuvious advice and get the opc warranty.
How did a Vectra ever become beloved?

The motorcare warranty probably has a claim limit .. It won't pay the total cost of an engine or gearbox replacement.
Will it pay pay OPC hourly rates?
Will it cover oil seals ?
What about a replacement car while yours is in the shop?
Will it include Europe wide recovery?

Go OPC.

As as aside, I came within a gnats's dick of buying a Ferrari 456. Until the dealer told me the claim limit on the warranty was £1000 yikes

1000 quid claim limit on a Ferrari, well I guess you'd be ok if a wiper blade bust.

Go for a 355 only 8 cylinders in that. Anyway what are you worried about given Ferrari's legendary reputation for reliability!!
