Thinking about upgrading the CDR22 in my 996. What difference is there between this and the CDR23? Is it worth swapping over? If not then what are other people using and has been worthwhile?

The CDR23 is a MOST enabled unit and will only work with MOST bussed Porsches, the CDR22 is a standard unit that will work in any other car.

CDR-23 use's MOST fibre optic bus so probably not that easy a swap. Don't know if it would have any benefit anyway.
Look at the Becker range as it looks OEM and is very good. Especially the one with satnav and bluetooth functionality.

A good replacement for the CDR22 is the Becker Grand Prix which has Bluetooth and an optional iPod controller, or if you fancy sat nav, the Becker Cascade is an awesome unit.

The Indianapolis Pro 7950 has satnav inc TMC and maps for every country you are likely to drive to and more.
Also Bluetooth and you can get a kit to support an ipod.

Top bit of kit. Just wish I could use one.

£599 plus the ipod kit at £80 give or take.
Pricey but you'd be looking at a few quid for a seperate car kit and satnav unit. This also keeps it all tidy and smart looking

cdr23 is fairly limited.
Uses fibre optics
Not as tunable, and almost impossible to sell on.
Most on ebay include the codecil "check model"etc
Ive got the cdr22 which is superb.
Preouts so you can push low output clear pre amped signal through a quality amp.
Plus of course it has a sub out, which filters out mid and high range frequencies so you can put a decent base speaker in.
Id recommend it.
almost got it wrong again dad

Can you fit a cdr22 in a 964?

Yup, no problem. Ive got one with two 200W amps, both sourced from the pre-out, in my 86 Carrera. Pre-out cable £3.99 from flea bay. Power via standard iso cable.

Thanks guys. I'll stick with the 22 for a while longer then.

Jamie, no CD changer I'm afraid. Are you at your folks over Christmas?
