Hi All,

I've been lurking around the Porsche forum for a while as i'm hoping to finally get myself into a Boxster. Now, i'm looking at doing it as cheaply as i can (yes, i know there's no such thing as a cheap Porsche!!!) but having looked around the classifieds for a while, there doesn't seem to be anything for less than say £13k, these being 2.5's with 100k+ miles on, in tangerine orange (or some other such attractive colour).

Reading Autocar magazine the other day, they had a very small feature on buying a used Boxster, and gave some "represntative" examples of what a prospective punter could get for their money. One example was a 2.5, RHD, for £10k. Another was a 2.7 in black, with Satnav, Climate etc. If i could find a 2.7 like this, i'd be very happy!

Now my question is, where the hell do they find examples like this, when i've been looking for months and kind find anything close to this price? Any ideas people?

Cheers,
Paul

Those sort of reviews are portraying the 'bargains' they've found as the norm. This is not true of the boxster or any Porsche for that matter. You get what you pay for. £13K will give you the choice of a lot of nice 2.5 examples (see PH classifieds). If you want to pay less it's going to be a high miler, a shed or a LHD import unless you find a really desperate seller. You'll have to spend more if you want a 2.7.

Yep, I’d love to know where all the ‘bargain’ cars these papers and mags find live. Most often they are dogs with 47 owners, 3 services in 130k miles and the Seller lives 100+ miles from the nearest A road, let alone Motorway.

As with most things in life you get what you pay for and whilst £10k might get you in at the bottom of Boxster ownership £12k-£14k will get you the car you really want.

I'll have a fair be that if you do find a boxster for 10k. The first service you take it in for you'll get a bill for about 5k.

I have a friend who is about to sell his boxster, its a 2.5.Very nice car and looks great in white.
I thought white would not look good, but it looks very nice. Its done 80k miles ,and i think he is looking for about 11500 for it.If interested ,email me ,and i will pass it on to him.
The car has just had a porsche centre bristol full service, which was just short of 3k!!
Its not a dog for sure.

True, but of those 5, 2 are LHD, ones tiptronic, and ones got well over 100k miles. And the others yellow! No offense to "Yello" obviously, but i don't think i've got the style to pull it off!

I have to say, of those 5, the only one that i'd consider would be the one with 111k miles (a wise man once said: buy on condition, not mileage......). But then would i be daft to consider one with so many miles? Porsche warranty wouldn't cover it would it?

Re. the white porsche coming up for sale, have you got any pictures, don't think i've ever seen a white boxster! I'm intrigued

If you can stretch an extra howabout this?

www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/119089.htm

That is phenomenal value for money and a fabulous car for 14k. I reckon it should be relatively stable in terms of depreciation as well.

There is a lot of downward pressure on 986 prices at the moment. This is due to the usual seasonal factors as well as the fact 987s are getting cheaper and cheaper. There is a one-year-old 987 for sale in PH classifieds for 27k whoch is about the cheapest I have seen.
