....can you fit a towbar to a 996...?

If so, who can do it and how much does it cost..?

Cheers,
Nige (flame suit on).

Actually I really need one too.

I can get one for my 964 but they want £600 for it!

No. The reason is that:

a) These days of 'Nanny Says' you have to have the manufacturers type approved one fitted (at the factory I think).

and

b) Porsche specifically says you can't fit a towbar.

Porsche owners know better than to tow cramped caravans around, you're supposed to stay in a hotel, have your speedboat dropped in by the yard, etc. etc....

Maybe a Lada Niva would do the job better

Phew....

Thank goodness for Nomex...lol!!!

Well that's a bit unfortunate that they don't, because I want to change my car and a 996 may just be in range, but I want to be able to tow my ...(sharp intake of breath)... CARAVAN ...(exhale!)...with it!!

Yes, really.

I must point out though that it is an itsy bitsy 550kg Eriba Puck and is also of German origin..lol!!! Shame, I was quite fancying a 996, but that's blown it. Oh, and before it's sugested I don't want to use another car that I may or may not own as an alternative to tow it...!!

It's a bit daft though, I have a 'bar on my '03 Impreza WRX and they can fit them to STi's, you can't fit one to an Evo or a Porsche (Cayenne exempted, and even BMW are happy to supply one on the back of a 335i. I'm confused.

And the used Carrera 4's were in my pricerange too.

you all laugh, but many years ago I knew an insurance motor engineer who operated a scheme for a large insurers who underwrote "proffessional showmen"

he was once called to inspect a damaged 911 which was fitted with a towbar to tow their caravan.......

I`m sure you can if you want to. I quite like the idea of using a car thoroughly, particularly if it offends those of a more precious disposition.

Best towbar I ever saw was hanging off the back of an Alfa Romeo Monza - circa £2Million worth of loveliness towing a trailer!

I have a Porsche Tequipment brochure with towbars on offer!

It has a picture of a 928 GTS towing a big speedboat.

So if the 996 is out get a nice GTS for towing.

You'll need to check you can still get the towbar though!

Well that's simple then, book a decent hotel or a B & B. You'll have novelties like being able to stand upright, running water, electricity, loos that work, breakfast made for you etc.

Otherwise you could take a tent and go camping

I've seen a Boxster in Peurto Benus in Spain with a towbar on. If I knew how to upload pictures I would put the photo on for you to see.
