I've just had my 2 year old C4S serviced and been advised that my front brake discs will be worn out by the MOT next year, and the rears are both rotted to such a degree that they will fail the MOT (Inside faces...usual problem).

So, 4 discs required...anyone had good preces from any of the specialists for turbo/C4S discs?

Now the real problem...
Although the standard pads are fine, easy to modulate etc...I feel they lack a little bite on the first application.
Can anyone suggest an alternative that has a shade more bite?
For road use mainly...maybe the occasional trip to the 'ring...but mainly fast road stuff, so I'd rather avois too much squealing.

I've heard Pagid Yellow being mantioned?
Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Glen.

Stick to the standard pads. I suspect your lack of bite on initial depression of the pedal might be down to the fact Porsche brakes aren`t over servo`d.

Pagid Yellows (RS-29) have a great feel, yet will squeal like a pig if you don't have much chance to 'use' them. I've been running RS-29 for a few years now on my C4S and they are very aggressive, wearing discs - excessive cracking around the drilled holes. I'd recommend not running RS-29 all round and consider Oranges for the rear. I might be tempted to try Oranges up front and see how disc wear goes.

I get my discs from Carnewal in Belgium, Gert's prices are hard to beat even when you include the Belgian VAT and delivery charges.

I've got used to the feel and relative lack of servo assist...but I'd still like a little more initial bite.
The feel, modulation and overall stopping power of the standard pads are good...but for my driving style a slightly more aggtessive initial bitw would be good.

Thanks for the comments.
I do use them hard...but on the road...and would rather avoid squealing where possible.

I have no issue with aggressive disc wear (out of interest...how fast do they wear) as I'd much rather wear the discs away with aggressive pads than have them sitting rotting away whilst I'm offshore and the car sitting in my garage....at least me wearing them out would make me feel better!

Good man...I'd forgotten about Gert!

I reckon my front discs will need replacing by next month for the MoT, I've done about 12k in the last 12 months. This has included 2 days at Spa, 3 days at the 'Ring and a few others. The pads have lasted longer than the discs!!!!

RS29s are a bad idea for road use only imho. They take a few applications to get up to temp, squeal frequently + loudly and cost a lot.

Sounds familiar...
11000 mostly road miles, 4 days at the 'ring...front discs nearly worn out, rear discs rotted away....rear pads like new and fronts still not half worn. *Sigh*

I'll fit Porsche discs but still unsure if to change pads...

Sounds like good advice...

Anyone used anything mid way between RS19/29s and standard pads?
Pagid orange/black?

Speak to JZMachtech maybe. They recommend one of the intermediate pagids, but I can't remember which. Maybe RS14s or RS15s.

When was the brake fluid last changed ? IMO that also has a big impact on pedal feel.

Also I can't understand these 'rear discs' rotting/corroding statements - as you're well aware, the 911 has a lot of weight over the rear and so the rear brake bias is much higher than with a mid or front engined car. The rear discs DO (or should) get heavily used so how on earth are they getting corroded ?

Also IMO Pagid pads are too aggressive and will give you LESS bite unless they are hot (not likely on normal driving ...)

I changed discs, with standard pads (Porsche/Textar) and fresh fluid a few weeks back and was astounded on how much better the bite was even before they bed in ...

I think my problem is that the car sits for 14 days at a time when I'm offshore...
Any water around the rear discs sit on the disc and rot it.
There are chunks of the disc face missing...not good on a 2 year old car.

They still brake fine - no wobble - but they are an MOT failure for next year.

Hmm...not what I'm looking for.

I've never been impressed with the bite, even from new.
The brakes work very well...just the initial bite, for my taste, could be a bit more aggressive.
