I know that there are a few docs on here so im after some info please...

Ive just been quoted £180 for my first class 2 medical (for my PPL). This sounds like a lot of money for what I imagine is going to be a 15 minute checkup? Im also told that only certain doctors are 'approved' to carry out the first class 2 medical exam and that most GPs cannot do it?

Any comments gratefully received please...

Thanks, Steve

Just gone through mine. Only CAA approved docs. can do it - your school will have a list. It cost £140 but I then paid £40 for the blood test so that price sounds right. Also involves ECG and volume tests - and of course 'just pee in here please'. Don't forget to take your glasses/lenses (and their pescription)with you if you wear them. Plus photo I.D. It's a lot more than 15mins. because of tests but also due to a fair bit of form filling.

one story I was told by a doc that on a cardiograph they sent off to be checked and it came back with the notes 'permitted to fly' but with 'NOS' - Not Over Sussex as thats where the cardio doc lived!
