Just topped my oil up and noticed a yellow residue round the filler cap, is it a head gasket maybe? I will nip to the OPC tomorrow to check but I have the warranty .

cheers

depends on how much.

Apparantly a thimble-full (or small amount) is normal - have no idea what, something technical to do with the engine and water apparantly...

if theres a lot, and its very gloopy/mayo-like, then it may be slightly more worrying?

Yeah Fidg has it .. The earlier ones especially have this , bout a spoonful is normal .. It apparently comes from multiple short runs where the water from the petrol condenses against the (cooler in temp) oil filler cap and neck but isn't heated for long enough to evaporate out of the system .. Or sumptin!!

Just seen this. I never do small runs, but today I have done 6 very small runs ( a few miles for each) so you may be right.

Also happens (on other cars) if the car isn't used for a while at this time of year. Water condenses etc in various places and then comes out in the filler cap or on the dip stick, if you had one.

OK cool thanks for replies guys. I was thinking the worse but I have done lots of little journies today. I will check it again Saturday at the ace cafe as that's a big run so I spose it should burn off.
