Is that Arctic or GT Silver?

Looks like Arctic. Was at Porsche today, funnily enough, getting an appointment to try their Arctic 997 GT3 Demonstrator (I know - a GT3 demonstrator - cool or what?). Also spent a bit of time getting my sweaty paw-marks and all over a customer's white car whilst grunting quietly and involuntarily rocking my hips. I think I rubbed my thighs so hard I gave myself friction burns. Don't know what it is about GT3s that bring out my inner monkey.
In any event, I mouth-breathed my way through the appointment process, then had a chat with the guy running the demo GT3. It's PCCB equipped, and I was interested to note that he maintained the ceramics are largely a waste of time unless money is no object at all - in which case the argument becomes one of "why not?", rather than "why?". I relayed the views posted on these pages and elsewhere regarding unsprung masses, ride, weight and longevity; and they were pretty much refuted as differences relative to the standard set-up so minute as to be inconsequential. He did say, however; that the longevity issue had been largely addressed, and that the PCCBs should now last long enough to keep owners off their backs for a 'good while'. Hearing this, I pushed further to ask to what extent Porsche would stand over the brakes in moderate to hard usage, and his answer was pretty much unequivocal - "I'd strongly advise anyone asking that question to get a steel brake equipped car."
These aren't official views, obviously, but the salesman in question is one I've dealt with for a while and have become reasonably pally with. Given that the Carbon Ceramic discs cost about 2,000 Euro each, you'd think Porsche would be able to sort some kind of peace-of-mind assurance out.
Edit - Cripes. Blahblahblahblah...where are my manners? Pugsey - congratulations on the car. Looks absolutely beautiful.

Hi guys. It's plain old A. Silver! Pic. was taken outside the Hotel Champ des Oiseaux, in Troyes a town about 1/2 hour or so south of Rhiems. It's a superb little place and town. Great for visiting the Champagne region or just as an overnight stop. They've got secure parking too. If you see a book called HIP HOTELS(France), buy it - full of great places. They do a whole series - HIP BEACH, HIP ESCAPES etc. etc. Sorry the pics. aren't that good - I was using a silly little digi. camera and I think I might have got the shakes with the excitement! There are some great ones from in and around the factory which I'll post when the mag. have chosen which ones they are going to use. Still haven't cleaned it - she'll have hit 2000miles inside two weeks if I'm not carefull!

Pugsey - did you notice the mileage before leaving the factory?
I don't know exactly I'm afraid but I do know that it was well below 100k - probably a lot less. My car would have suffered a little extra moving around because - due to a very un Germanic mix up - it actually started it's journey to the docks before someone pointed out that it was earmarked for factory collect! This must have lead to a little extra shuffling around between transporters etc. I suppose. Frankly I got the feeling that had it not been for great efforts by Porsche UK press and marketing departments the factory would have shrugged and said 'too bad'. So thanks are due to all involved. Funnily enough I took the car in to my OPC the other day for UK registration and the computer was showing 90 miles to fill up - when I picked it up it was showing 30. Again I didn't check the mileage but I guess I will in future. Perhaps these beasts use a lot of fuel just on tick over!
BTW still being driven semi. gently I'm seeing 24mpg. My AMV8 was 15 mpg!! Edited by Pugsey on Saturday 25th November 12:28

Looks fab, congrats! A question though, is it possible to have the car fully insured on those German export plates? Someone told me that it wasn't, true?
Thankyou! Part of the factory collection package cost is full insurance. It is so comprehensive that it even covers you for the 'Ring! For the nine days that the plates are valid you don't need your own insurance - that only needs setting up from the day your OPC regs. the car in the UK. Thanks for posting - and improving to pics Grant!
What you can't see from these pics. is how super tough the beast looks when you notice the cage through the side or rear windows. It's a real latticework - not like the weedy non Porsche ones that are around. And when you open the door the buckets really finish things off.
Nice experience this afternoon - pulled into a petrol station after a little run and an M3 that I'd been aware of for a few miles pulled in after me. Driver got out, highly excited said "cool car mate but I was pleased to just about stay with you!" Bless him - didn't have the heart to tell him I was looking forward to going over 6500rpm and giving it full beans soon!
Oh, it's now got UK plates - which look crap frankly.

I assume you dont have personal plates then? I've got some nice short plates XXX YY (X=letter, Y=number).
Do you think i'm better getting the personal plates put straight on at first reg or waiting until after reg then the car gets its own identity, ie an 07 plate? Does it make much difference?
