Just replaced all 4 tyres on 944 cab with Toyos T1-R's
The car is frightening to drive and wanders all over the road and the stability at speed is scary.
I,ve changed nothing else on the car and it performed well on Pirelli tyres.
Has anyone had a problem with these tyres.
The pressures are set at 32psi (as recommended by 944 expert) and most people I talk to say these tyres are excellent and make me feel like an idiot, but I know the car is not handling as it should and it is only since the tyres were changed so it must be the tyres.
Any suggestions /cures

Thanks
Ed

i'm assuming the road was wet yes?

IIRC the T1-R are semi-slick track day tyres no?

I have these on a 205 and find them very good.

I assume the direction of rotation is correct and that the wheel nuts are done up tight? Tracking could have been adjusted incorrectly?

Is there any wheel wobble?

If its none of these then I can only guess that something else has failed in the suspension department independent of fitting the tyres.

They're good on the Seven and on the MX-5, but both weigh undera ton. Generally they have a very good reputation, especially in the wet. You need to get rid of the mould release agent, which should take 50 miles or so.

They have a conventional tread pattern (bit like a goodyear F1).

No, just normal tyres.

T1-S is the normal version (although harder to get) and the T1-R is the reinforced version (I think).

Certainly not a semi slick, although very grippy

I'd echo the fact that you have to 'bed' in the tyres to get rid of the mould stuff.

Won't take long I'm sure.

One possibility is that the tyres need a few hundred miles to lose the mould release compound with which they are coated when new. I thiknk Toyos are known for needing a longer than average time for this process to complete. Another thing to check is that they are not balanced properly. I had this on my S2 several years ago and it made the car feel awful.

Have these on my S2 with no problems in dry or wet. I actually swapped bridgestones off as their performance was so poor. Is your geometry all correctly set up, it makes a huge difference. I also run mine at 36 all round - advice I received off the titanic 944 forum.

I had them on my 968 all round and thought they were brilliant, esp in the wet. Wear rate was quite quick though.

I have them on my MK1 GT3. Grip is very good - I think better than my Michelins in the dry, though its a close run thing. Only had them for 1000 miles or so, so don't know wear rate.

Sounds to me like you haven't scrubbed them in yet - though if handling is still pants after 40-50 miles, something is wrong.

I've just replaced my Michelins Pilot Exalto on my integrale with some T1-R (replacements for the T1-S apparently) and I think the grip is down, I've done about 600miles already so I think they are worn in. I've even managed to wheel spin (for a short period!) my grale which I've never been able to do before.

I've found T1-S and T1-Rs to need some time to work up to full grip. Once you've done a little mileage they should grippen up and stick like glue, but for the first few miles after fitting you need to be careful.
