Guys,

After binning my 997TT order following an extended test drive I've swapped my order to a 997GT2.

I'd heard on the grapevine that the GT2 will be launched for the 08 model year (so poss September delivery) - and will have 550bhp - and MIGHT be the first 911 derivative with PDK???

Anyone heard anything on this??

Close !

The PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplungs) transmission was used in the Porsche 956 and 962 Le Mans race cars and also the Sport Quattro S1 Group B cars.

It's Porsche's version of the DSG clutch/gearbox in the Audi and Veyron - two Clutches operating separate "halves" of the gearbox - one clutch operates 1st, 3rd, and 5th and the other 2nd, 4th and 6th - both gears are selected at the same time and when you "change gear" the ECU is just flipping from one clutch to the other - result? = instant gearchanges under full power with no loss of drive to the wheels = very rapid progress and much faster changes than a typical flappy paddle box.

I'm reliably informed that my 997GT2 will be with me in time for the May 2007 Gumball 3000. I was told thay will be on the streets by Jan 08. Mines a manual.

Few spy pics of one at the ring in the latest 911 World and it looks pretty near to completion.

Maybe they've got in on this: www.zeroshift.com ?

As a lighter, simpler alternative to PDK.

I have just looked at the zeroshift web site. What an incredibly interesting site (if you are sad like me!). A lot of time is lost changing gear and this might be an affordable development.
Thanks for highlighting it.
Cheers,
Richard.
