Boxster rear window
Discussion
Just bought a Boxster S and the second time I lowered the roof the f-----g window has split. Its a 2002 car and the window looked in good nick. Now I need to get it replaced. On my previous soft top car I removed the top myself and took it to local trimmer. Does anyone know if removing the hood on a Boxster is DIY friendly!
Great car, having moved from a TVR I am on

Ah. You need to perfect the "Boxster Chop."
Indeed. PITA.
Take your car to a specialist who will replace just the plastic rear screen and leave the hood untouched. I don't think its a DIY job to remove the hood!
Some peeps appear to be offering an upgrade that includes a glass rear window - a la the later model 986S.

It's a shame the seller didn't warn you about this risk but in general terms, when it's less than about 20C, you need to get out of the car when the top is half way down and ease the placcy rear window into a smooth curve before getting back in and lowering it totally down.
If it is colder than 20C but the car has been parked with the window in direct sunlight, you can still get away with it but as a default, I always make sure I can see that it's not creasing as I lower it. I put my top down in below 0C weather on sunny days like this and have had no problems. Once down, the engine compartment keeps it cosy so there should be no problem raising it again after a run.
The repair should be easy enough for a specialist and a new window can be sewn in for less than the cost of replacing the whole top - although I imagine that the top has to come off when it is being sewn....

Yep, easy to replace the window on it’s own if you really know what you are doing but I wouldn’t try it myself. Not that expensive in the great scheme of things.
You will need to learn the Boxster chop!
Echoing what has already been said you can go topless in any temp but if it is sub 5C I wait until the interior has warmed up ( and hence the plastic window) before lowering.
