Discussion
Hi,
Little new to posting here, however a long time visitor to this website.
I have a budget of around £15k to spend on my first 911. Does anyone have any views on what I should go for? In terms of affordability and price.
I quite like the look of mid 1970's models, however I suspect dynamically not as exciting as the early 80's cars?? Any advice would be great.
Gio.

Hi
For that sort of money you could get a good 3.2 Carrera narrow bodied up to an 1989 or even a good 964 Carrera 1989 to 1993.
3.2 is more of a classic and will probably hold value better (fuch alloys etc)
964 has a 3.6 engine and is a little bit more modern but more expensive to maintain and more prone to leaks, i used to run a Turbo version of the 964 so i know how expensive these things are, but good cars and a more modern driving experience.
My advise would be to go with the 3.2 Carrera a true classic and not too delicate that you couldn't use daily, also has that classic seat of your pants 911 wow factor.
At the end of the day it's like all these sort of debates it's a personel choice the end of the day based on life cost's etc.
Hope this helps.

ps its the 993 i hate. the 964 is old fashioned and admits it. the 993 has pretentions of being new whilst still stinking of old spice, incontinence pants and pipe tobacco.

The forum banter really HAS made you bitter and twisted hasn't it? Hey, it wasn't our fault that you bought a lavender 996 and people took the piss!
Anyway - buy this one. It'll make you happier than a Maserati and you could always have it resprayed in pink.
Old Skool is definitely the coolest thing around at the moment, 1980's 911s and 930s being completely brilliant in every respect. Especially for old gits like me who enjoy living in the past 'coz it's cheaper and was the age of Led Zep, Spinal Tap, ZZ-top and AC/DC. 'Course nowadays we've got the DS lite, back then we had to solder together our own TTL ZX81 clones while living in a shoebox on the A41 near Watford
Plus, no antifreeze worries this winter, instant-on heating (heater output slightly connected to right foot). If you want to be cossetted buy a Lexus, although personally I find the 1980's seats very comfy.
Buying advice: Avoid anything with rust.

Carrera 3.2, I've been looking into them as my next car ,and you should get a half decent one for that money.
Actually, it'll get you a very decent one ...
I am humming and harring about letting my '88 3.2 Carrera go and it will be just under that budget. Heart says go back to topless, head says stay with what is undoubtedly a great car. It hooned down to Monaco and around the southern Alps on Eurohoon in September and never missed a beat ... and it genuinely exceeds its factory 152 mph!
It has certainly convinced me that the 911 deserves its reputation as the world's best all round sports car in the world
