Hello,
I am sure that this has been asked before, but whether by pure ignorance or bad luck i am unable to find a reference to it. I am looking for a nearly new porsche and the budget is 45K. it will be a weekend car that i would like to keep for three to five years. Is the discounts available from said imported cars from independent dealers worth it, i am, of course thinking of the resale value.

not quite sure what the question is here? a LHD import will attract a decent discount over RHD, probably 3-6K depending on model/age, but will be equally less value at resale time. Looking at various LHD sites it seems that the rate of depreciation curve on most models is broadly comparable with RHD, but with different starting values.
Considering RHD imports, opinions vary. There are those who argue that UK spec is UK spec, so its the C number that matters, and if its uk spec its uk price. The reality is however that some dealers (including OPC) will tell you it makes no difference when they are selling and tell you its a minus point when buying back rolleyes

An 'unofficial' import (ie not imported by Porsche Cars GB and originally supplied by a UK OPC) is generally worth less than an 'official' import, even if to full UK spec. However, this difference diminishes as the car gets older.

The reasons have been covered on here many times. However it is all relative. The savings when new can make it worthwhile.

I bought my 997 new from the unofficial dealer in Coventry. I was willing to go this way as I wanted a car to my spec, but didn't want to wait the 18months I was being quoted at the time by every OPC I spoke to. The car was a 'C98' rather than the official UK 'C16'. Full UK spec though and I was very happy. I took the (completely expected) hit when I came to sell it, as no OPCs would take it and like you say, most people expect to pay less for an 'unofficial' car.

In answer to your question, was it worth it, yes. I had my car longer than I probably would have if i'd bought it from an OPC, and every day owning a 997S was great.

There was no 'hit' whatsoever when I sold my C16 Boxster S that I bought from Porsche in Germany. OPC in UK told me it made no difference because it would have been the same car that they would have 'imported' into their showroom when new.

Completely agree, if it's C16. I used to have a 996, C16 (although originally from Belgium), bought from an OPC, and I sold that for a normal price. OPCs are very sniffy about anything other than C16, and most refuse to stock them.
