I fear that I am losing my marbles.

I have a great GT3, takes track punishment all day long and drives me (cross continent if need be) home.

But I have this itch, getting worse by the week, for a Ferrari F355. I love the looks and in particular the sound. It would feel special dare i say it in the way that maybe the GT3 doesn't (any more?).

But not sure if my F355 dream should be best just left at that, a dream and I should carry on driving a great car in the GT3. Not sure how much of this is taking for granted whats in the garage for somet. thats in the mind.

I've long considered myself a Porsche man but can't get this 355 thing out of my head.

Cheers

Ajit.

I was behind one the other day, a 355 berlinetta or something. It was smelly, too low, produced a heat haze like a jet fighter, noisy and generally looked like it was about to catch fire/break down any second. Oh, wasn't very quick either. Keep the GT3

the 355 is one of those iconic looks that will never leave you .. However, I doubt it would as easy to run as your GT3.. I'm sure it can 'whore' it up down the boulevard, but would be crap in the kitchen ;-)

I havent had a GT3....yet but i have had a boxster S, and 2 911's and had a 355 berlinetta. i would say the 355 is a fantastic car but totally not in the porsches league. For the itch i would highly recommend hiring one for a day or 2. I wish i hired one instead of buying one. Great cars but the porsches have no worry attached to them.

Having said this i was nosing around a 360 CS yesterday thinking of how i could justify it but now i think for less than half of the price i am on the look out for a GT2 instead.
Good luck with whatever you decide but please try before you buy.

I used to have the same itch, but the performance does not match the looks. In my modded scooby days, they were an easy target.

I followed a spyder once, on the M25. My mate was saying how good it looked and how the blonde passenger was probably compulsory. When the traffic cleared, I heard him go down a couple of cogs and he floored it. He probably did this to impress the blonde as she looked behind at us at the same time. The look should have been to gloat as they left the piece of Jap Crap for dust. Unfortunately they didn't leave us one inch. I could have driven up closer. Blondie then said something to the driver, probably asking if he needed to get the car serviced. I think he said he would lose us once he got to 120mph. She looked around when he got to 120 and sadly, we were still there.

A Spyder isn't a great example as the kg/bhp is worse than the tin top, but even the tin tops were no better than £15k of rice rocket.

They never made the claimed 380bhp, weighed in at more than the claimed 1300kg and broke gearboxes on a regular basis. The standard manifolds melt if you take them on track and routine servicing is eye wateringly expensive.

They have a fantastic image but if you are used to a GT3, you will be very disappointed.

Bit like the unobtainable (but now sagging mother of 3) girl at high school - but some dreams are obtainable viz the Fezza, but my fear is that having got one, it will turn out to be like the proverbial sagging mother of 3...

Hiring one for a few days sounds a sensible way forward...but problem is, i'm most likely to do that in the summer and have a really great drive through France or somet..

Having experience of both (I enjoyed writing that), it's an itch worth scratching.

If you're trying to make a rational judgement, you're missing the point somewhat. It's not as good as a GT3, or as quick, but it's the emotional feelings you can't debate...

Shakira? I wouldn't.

Oh Ajit, this sounds like a long and slippery slope. I agree the fezza looks and sounds amazing. Not sure about performance and handling cos I've never driven one. However, knowing the reputation of the GT3 I doubt whether the 355 will be better in this respect. A friend of mine had a simialr itch about 2 years ago and ended up with a fantastic red 360. Always wanted one. He took it out about a dozen times and sold it earlier this year - he was bored with it and I don't think he ever took it on track. He lost c £19k on the price and recently purchased a 996 GT3RS.

Also there's a guy on here somewhere(Eric Kasir) who owned a 355 until one day it caught fire on the M25 and completely burned out. I think he now owns a 993 turbo.

Don't do it Ajit you will only regret it in the morning.

Maybe if do not want to track it a 355 would be nice.
But do not get get one for the track, the 355 is no comparison with the GT3.
How about a 456M instead of a 550. For the road.
I'll certainly have a 12 cylinder front engine rarri, later

Blondes just don't do it for me.

Hire one for a week & get it out your system, or at least justify the move to yourself.

As for any stories of one car trying to out accelerate another etc, just go & spend £10K on a decent sports bike & enter another league I remember riding a ZX9R up beside a 355 on a motorway once, with the driver looking at me & obnoxiously waving goodbye as he floored it. I opened the throttle about halfway to get level, looked across at him & blonde g/f, shook my head & then shot off into the distance . Ah, missing the scooby, ferrari etc bashing days

Just wish I could afford a GT3 mind you
