This is a very difficult car to replace, it ticks many boxes but I have a nasty habit of frequenetly changing cars.

Appropriate vehicle needs to having following attributes
- Good road performance with ability for light track use.
- Ability to carry one small child in back seat.
- Can be used as everyday car covering 12-15K miles pa.
- Current depreciation similar to used 997 (I suppose rules out all new cars)
- A car that makes you want to look twice at it but not falling over with laughter. I could not live with the attention of my previous Sagaris.
- Not a convertible unless it has hard top option.
- Don't need to have roadside assistance membership as standard.
- Budget upto 60K.

Cars I've been thinking about are:
- Merc SL55
- 996 GT3
- BMW M6 (prices starting to tumble)
- Noble M400
- Nissan 350Z plus track weapon.
None of the above geat be juiced up over current or tick enough boxes, the 997 is really a great peice of kit but I have an itch.

You guys know your stuff and advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Sagman

Tough one but some of your choices do not meet your requirements:

Carrying a small child in the back of a Gt3 is a stretch, but won't they be too uncomfortable in a Noble M400 or 350Z ???

The onvious, CSL perhaps?

I went from a 997C2S to a GT2, use it every day without fail. Makes the 997 feel like a GTi. Saw a couple of BMW M6s today, they look awesome.

I've been thinking about this ever since I flogged mine back in May to help fund a house purchase. My Golf GTI is fun but it isn't a 911. My latest plan (as soon as funds allow) is to get rid of the Golf and get a 5k London runabout.
And then a GT3 mk2.
Or a 993 C4S.
Or a LHD 993 RS.
Or a 993 TT.
Or a 996 C4S.
Or a 996 TT.
Or another 997 C2S.
As tempting as the M6s look at under £60k, I reckon they've still got a long way to fall. And they aren't 911s either.
Good luck with whatever you choose though.

Can get an M6 for 62K but having driven an M5 I feel it will be a soft and heavy for serious driving and yes very concerned with residuals. M3 CSL is a fantatsic weapon, it was what I used prior to the 997. For 30k (2003 model) the CSL is one of the most "fun for the buck" vehicles on the road today, totally underrated.

the thing is that if i didn't have my 997 I would definetly choose one - maybe i should consider some mod's, any suggestions or am I throwing cash down the drain!
Cheers for response to-date.

What about the new XKR? Dunno 1st hand what its like yet but mine comes in 6weeks, and reviews are all good and its a bit different. I'd definitely wait until the XKR has been around 3months before buying an M6. I reckon M6 residuals will take a beating over the first few months of the XKR launch. Mainly due to people switching to have the newest car-of-the-moment etc. However I do also like the idea of the M6.

Dunno why the 996 GT3 is in there. It doesnt seem to fit many of your criteria. Probably not worth it straight away, you may aswell try something non-Porsche next. Also, the SL55 doesnt have rear seats, or is that not a defining requirement.

DB7 GT is the one I'd go for, I know it has a dodgy interior but the carbon look helps.

Why not keep the C2S? Or is it just itchy feet?

I'm probably not the best person to comment because i tend to keep my cars min. 4-5 yrs.
