New 997 GT3 - First Impressions
Discussion
Took delivery today.
Will provide more details later.
All I can say, at the moment, is that it has completely exceeded my expectations. The chassis feels so well sorted - go kart taught, yet incredibly comfortable.
So far can't find fault - quite the opposite in fact
Too excited to write about it - far rather be driving it

I'll put some first impressions together later. My head is still buzzing at the moment.
If you have one on order - you really will not be disappointed.
If you have a 996 GT3 - you still have a terrific car.

I have RS on order, and excited is not a strong enough word at the moment

Have been thinking about putting one on order. Let us know how you get on!
Great stuff, congratulations with that future icon! Superb car and a lot of us are healthy jealous on you now:-)
...this is very honest and I think a lot of other Porsche maniacs around here will be glad to read it...feet on the floor again, relief!

Ok, I've only had it a few hours. But these are a few observations, in no paricular order.
* Firstly, believe me, the 997 GT3 really does look awesome in the metal
* I was told that there are no special 'running in' procedures - just bed-in the brakes and tyres over the first 100 miles and gradually increase the revs.First service is 'officially' at 20,000 miles
* I haven't yet been above 5000rpm, but delivery even in the low to mid-range is fantastic. Can't wait to hear it howl at 8000 rpm
* It drives very easily - all the controls are meaty, but fluid, although gear selection is a little bit stiff (probably a combination of new and short shift)
* The chassis feels incredible. I've driven on a mix of roads (from the M4 to unclassified back lanes) and the ride is quiet and comfortable. Despite being supplied in 'Track' set up, there is no tram-lining, no kick back, just amazing stability. Yet it still feels like a big go kart and the steering is simply fantastic.
* Likewise, whilst it is supremely quick, it is equally enjoyable and involving to drive at the legal limits (which is good because this is a potential 'licence loser'
) It really doesn't seem to be compromised in any areas.
* The MPSCs are very good (grippy, quiet, compliant) but I haven't yet tested them in the wet.
* The sports seats feel very comfortable and secure with the alcantara. Although I loved the lwt buckets, the standard seats are still superb.
* I have to admit, mine is in 'Touring' spec., as I already have a couple of basic/track cars, and I wanted this for regular road use and only occasional track days. But with the upgraded audio, heated seats and the cruise set to 79 (there's cameras on the M4) it was totally relaxed and refined, but on the back lanes around Castle Combe and up through Gloucestershire you could feel the race car pedigree.
Overall, it is hard to fault. Maybe it's a bit too refined for some hardcore enthusiasts - perhaps the RS will address this, or stick with the 996 GT3, particularly if it is being used predominantly on track.
It's left a big hole in my bank account, but I reckon it's worth every penny.
