Guys, I know many of you will want to be hunting me down for even asking , but can you get genuine Porsche roof bars for a 996? I am sick an tired of putting a bike rack onto the back of the Z4 every weekend. It's always another tick for the 996 on my list.

Any pictures, how bad does it look? How easy are they to remove if going away on a long journey for example?

there is a thread about child seats but it does have a picture of roof bars and even a roof box in it.

Comes right from the OPC under their Tequipment brand. With bike rack and all.

Also available in a version for on road bikes (i.e. with detached front wheel)

Porsche system works fine. I've got an early 996 and there were some mods to the roofbar fixings that needed doing which were apparrently part of a factory retro-fit. Mine were't done so AFN had to do this before I could use the bars. Worth checking before you fit.

Takes about 5 mins to fit / remove and very good quality bars - as they should be for £300!

Sorry to bump this post, but I'm considering doing this.

Can someone tell me if the non specialised road bike mount will take a road bike? I have a hybrid bike and a MTB, do I need one of each type or can I just get two MTB mounts?

Confused.

lol

I've got a spare set of roof bars that fit the 996 and 997, with 2 sets of mountain bike carriers. Was going to put these on ebay but would prefer them to go to a fellow PH'er. PH me if you're interested.

Hi there, not sure if you would be prepared to help.

I have a 997 Coupe and I will be tacking part in the London to Brighton Charity cycle ride on June 17th 2007, the problem is I need to get my bike to Brighton and I can't really justify buying a roof system for one weekend. I have posted several messages on the Porsche Club forum with no affect.

So, the question is would you be prepared to lend/ rent the roof system for a weekend in the aid of charity.

Cheers Nick

I presume you mean to get BACK from Brighton?

Anyway, why not do the same as loads of other people and just get the train back with your bike? Worked fine for me..

To answer some of the previous posts.
We have been told that no cycles will be allowed on the trains that weekend due to the number of people taking part. So much for public transport .

For those that haven't taken part, the best way is to leave my car at Brighton, take a pre-arranged coach with my bike to the starting line in London, do the ride, and then drive home.
