As you may have read in *lardy 964* thread I am thinking of selling my car.

Well no I am selling my car because I want a 996, maybe a Gt3.

Trouble is although I run a business restoring classic cars I have no idea how to sell this.

Its a '91 LHD German import Black 964 C2 Cab. Black leather, Black hood, totally original except a decat (and have the original cat too.

The cars tidy, could do with a machine polish but in good nick, NO RUST, no panel damage except the odd trolley ding (mainly on O/s Door??)

No expense is spared on it, hence new clutch/brakes/windscreen etc.

It had some engine work done about 30K ago so engine is strong as an ox.

It does leak a minute amount of oil, I mean minute!!!

It has 2 problems, It has brake judder since fitting new disks, suspect a warped disk so will sort this before it goes.

It has also started to weep oil from an oil pipe, (the only one that has not been changed) again I will do this before it goes.

I don't think I'm being greedy asking £14k for it, seeing as it has 10 months MOT, and good tyres, as well as lots of history etc.

Where do I sell it? Autotrader?

obvious point - on pistonheads, PGB etc...

Your appealing to the top end of the 964 market (from what i understand from lardy thread) so you want to find someone prepared to pay top dollar for a good example.

Do you really think that little?

The trouble is at that money I start to question whether its even worth selling, its too nice a car to let go for nothing, just done a 3000 mile trip round europe without missing a beat!

Its not at the top end of the 964 market either to be honest, its just a good honest car, its the sort of car that would be a great first Porsche as nothing major is going to go as its all been done! you don't get much change from £2k for the clutch/brakes and oil pipes alone!

i think youre pitching a bit high to be honest. for only 1-2k more one could get a dealer supplied RHD model with a warranty of some sort (for what its worth), and to boot one with a top end rebuild. I put the lardy 964 post up, and having pricked my own interset, have been trawling extensively. there really is a spread of good RHD dealer-supplied cars at your price point, and rule of thumb being take off 3-5K for LHD...

Sadly, for mileage, left hooker and being a cab (coupes seem to fetch more as better classic status), I'd say 11-12k. A dealer would probably give you 8-9k for it.

Maybe poorcardealer can confirm or deny.

no way!

maybe for a modern porker - but when your in the lower end on the 964 market do you seriously think that a 14k RHD would only fetch 10k as a LHD?

10-15% is a more realistic figure.

mine is up at £10,995 in the classifieds and its a censored right corker!

I'd have said that in really nice condition (sounds like it is) and with the work that's been done it's advertising at a realistic £12k, though what someone would actually pay for it and how long you may have to wait for the right buyer is another question.

Look around at what's available (and has been for a while) and it's clear the market is on the slow side for specialist stuff like 964's, and to some degree even 993's...

Hmmm thanks sounds a bit more promising.

I think I will get the jobs sorted that need doing and stick it on at 12.5, and just see what happens, I cant really let it go for less than 12K not when you look around at what else you can buy for that money.

Thanks!

fair enough - it was just a question...

after all, if its priced fairly it'll sell quickly if its as good as you say - if its overpriced it wont move..

That's the right attitude - what it is worth to you is sometimes more than what it might be worth to someone else. When my 993tt went it was a very close call, i was sorely tempted to say bo11ocks and just keep it...

Mmm its hard, on the one hand I can't afford a 996 and a 964, but on the other hand What else of a similar nature could I get for the money?

Being LHD have you considered advertising on the continent? I hear there is quite a premium being paid for decent left hookers out there at the mo? driving

Again, my 993tt went to Germany - the guy flew to Stansted, took a taxi to Reading (!), gave me cash (!!) and then drove the car back to Germany yikes
