boxster S whats best way to sell it?
Discussion
Sounds a good bid!
Not many folks out there who'll pay more than £30k for an 'old shape' Boxster which is what it'll be with a reasonable margin across it
They have had in 12mths, put 15k miles up it and obviously paid a dealers margin when they purchased it hence £8.5k loss

£30k Carrera? Presuming your meaning a 996
All a question of where you buy it from, and how lucky you are!
a £30k 996 is mostly going to have increased maintenace (as its going to be circa 2000 and have 40-70k miles on it) yes you could buy privately and avoid paying a 'margin' but if the engine goes pop which they can...and do! you'll be looking down the barrel of a £8-10k bill, plus of course all cars depreciate.
The mistake they made, is they should have invested their £35k in a 2.7 987 new shape boxster rather than the higher spec old model IMHO

Its funny - you buy the cars they tell you how good the depreciation is, but the moment you come to sell them you hear the opposite.
Best bet is to advertise privately, here, PGB and Autotrader - but as said above, from a private price your not going to get over 30k - and you have all the downsides of a private sale...
So if a bit of time is worth 3k to them, advertise, worst case they dont sell and have to take the trade in.

Sounds like a very good offer from the dealer in my opinion. If she bought it at £36K last year the dealer would have paid closer to £30K at that time, so the difference from year to year isn't huge. She's not suffering depreciation here, she's suffering from buying high and selling low - i.e. dealers.
Also, the year has minimal impact on price - this car will be grouped with similar mileage facelifts from 52 plate onwards - the correct spec here will have at least as big an impact on the price as age. 2003 boxster S are readily available at the £23-24K mark just now and we're coming into winter. I'd take the £27.5K and run.

agreed, she overpaid for an outgoing model, and red calipers are std on an S
I sold my Boxster S here no trouble but anything north of 30k will be hard to achieve as you are competing with the improved 987

thanks for your replies. I alrady told her it was a mistake when she first bought the car, that she bought the pre facelifted model but a high spec one
so sell privately for 29k??
so sell privately for 29k??
I'd say advertise at 29k in the run-up to the change - if she hasnt had any bites/offers by then, take the 27.5...

although be wary of the OPC changing their offer - they are well known for changing an offer if you don't take it straight away - they're not daft and will know you tried to sell privately and failed, so will lower their bid appropriately
I sold an 03 Boxster S through pistonheads a couple of months ago - small but very relevant response only tarnished by the odd prat saying that it was overpriced (one even took the trouble to compose a long text to tell me as much!). Car sold for full asking to the first person who came to view!
Having said that it does look like a reasonable price for a dealer bid bearing in mind the time of year..

Yes..the winter is approaching. Would it be better to not drive the car in the winter and sell it in the spring?
For sure. My overwhelming memory of the 1 year I had my Bosxter S was driving it through the winter, mostly with the hood down, heated seats on, blasting around in the crist winter air......was great !

So you think 27.5k from an AFN porsche dealer is the best option? I was thinking she could sell it at 28k then buy an older boxster s 2002 model for 20k?
thanks for your advice so far!
i knew when she bought it that it wasnt the 987 and i was gutted even then as i knew this would cause the car to be worth less when she sold it. However it seems some people are easily duped into the salesmans pitter pan bullshit.

Hmmm, difficult one. Personally either sell it now, or keep it for a good few years, enjoy and forget about the depreciation.
Values have got to be hammered even more by the 987 over the year.
