techincal q - C4 diff light

my 964 has just started beeping an illuminating the diff light ont he dash when i start the engine up. it goes off after a few seconds.

it mentions in the hand book about getting the diff looked at, but doesnt draw a line between it coming on for a few secs and coming on and staying on (presumably a big problem). all it says is to adjust your driving style - not very helpful.

any thoughts?
